Your information is incorrect.
Just saying the C has room for 5 doesn't make it so.
The middle person in the back seat needs to be about 70 pounds or less; some dogs won't even fit well.

Neither one worthy of a "mid-sized" family car label.

 

Prius liftback is a midsize, offering more legroom in back.

 

And I suspect more "elbow" room for two rear passengers too.
A LOT of people have Volts as their main or only car.
Not too many do that with a C.

I wasn't discussing the current Volt, but what the second gen needs to garner the most sales, and that is to become a better family car. Adding a fifth seat and increasing cabin space shouldn't be difficult. I suspect the space taken up by the rear battery tunnel would be enough to reach mid-size status. It has 90cu.ft. of cabin space. The Cruze, a mid-size, has 94, but 2 less of cargo space, and is at the cut off for mid-size. 94 is also what the Prius liftback has in cabin space. Getting the Volt 2 to Prius size shouldn't be a big hurdle.

My statement about the Prius c being for singles, young families, and second car also apply to the current Volt. The Volt has 3 more cubic feet of passenger space than the c. That is over 22 gallons of extra space. So while the Volt may not have a fifth seat, with the more realistic possibility of 4 people in either car, it will be more comfortable for those 4 people. Plus it has 1 cu.ft. more of cargo space. Which makes it better suited as a main family car replacement for those willing to downsize from a mid-size sedan or small crossover.

Where'd you stick the spare tire in your Prius phv, and didn't you take it on a 1000+ mile trip this summer? For most people, a spare tire isn't a need. Modern tires are more durable, all new cars have TPMS, and nearly everyone has a cell phone. The odds of needing to use the spare probably means it is dangerously underinflated by the time it is used for most people. Run flat tires are also an option for those that may need the assurance of a spare.

 

LEGROOM! That criteria cannot just be disregarded. The 1.9 inch difference in back is quite noticeable.

Increasing that to Prius size is one of the things we'll want to know find out about in January. Should we expect it?

Everyone's "situation" is different.
Putting things or people into little classification "boxes" does not usually paint an accurate picture.

BTW, PiP is our only car in the family of 4. There is no need for a second car. It is great for around town and my normal 8.5 miles commute. It was also great (60 MPG) for (1,000+ miles) trip to Canada.

 

The front turn indicators sure look Prius like!

 

I would expect not, I was just pointing out the similarity of the turn signal. Lets hope that GM came up with their own designs as they should!

 

I don't see the resemblance. The Prius has a round bezel, and the Volt uses a square one. The light itself looks similar, but I've seen such on other brands and models in parking lots. Which could very well be an off shelf part from a major supplier.
