It all depends on what one must run in a emergency, everything in the house is rated in Watts, so you work up to 1500 or 2000 Watts. Perhaps the Kilowatt Meter would work in this direction also, if so, it would be a good aid. Your basically acting as your own power company.

 

2000 watts divided by 120 volts is..........16.666666666 amps.......over three times the max charge rate of the 12 volt aux battery

I would simply keep my garage door slightly open to exhaust the gas, which is extremely minimal on a Prius.

 

just install a metal pipe to the exhaust and vent it outside under your garage door

 

Please Kitty, what is that electronic formula you are using? 2000 watts is the potential that can be used, 120 Volts is the design Force. You cannot make up your own Ohms Law.

The 5 A specification is a current limit using an external trickle charger.
It means "do not use a quick charger to charge the 12V battery".

Except that 60 watt bulb is now working off of 120 V. I= E/R What current is the lightbulb drawing? You must know its resistance.

 

Minimal compared to other vehicles, but just as toxic. What you propose is extremely dangerous! The exhaust from any vehicle, including the Prius, contains Carbon Monoxide and Carbon Dioxide among others. These gases will build up in your blood stream and replace the oxygen in your blood leading to death! Opening the garage door may in fact help the gas enter your home depending on the convections within your home. Why do you think people use car exhaust as a method of suicide? It can render you unconscious in minutes and unable to help yourself. I hope no one decides to take your advice about this.

They are far more likely to steal my neighbor's generator. Mostly a Prius acting as a generator looks exactly like any other Prius, with locked doors, no key and everything. Every so often the engine starts up, barely discernible on a normal night. Plus, if the lights go out, I am going out to see what's up with it; perfect alarm system. Besides, no one steals Prii.

No. You only need the fob to be inside the car to use the power button (to put it in ACC, READY, IG-ON modes). You can leave the car in READY mode and drive away w/o the fob. When they shut down, they won't be able to restart it, unless they have the fob. But hey, if the thief drives to a chop shop....

It sounds like your dealer didn't show you/tell you about this at delivery.

From my Kill A Watt awhile ago I recorded 107.3 volts at 1264 watts the amperage was 11.9 checked my math, look's correct to me

 

You don't need to smell them to be effected by them. I could use my gas grill indoors and smell nothing but the food cooking and still die from the carbon gases. The Prius is actually more dangerous in this regard; because of the reduced particulates there is less to smell, increasing the danger.
