    You still don't understand.
There is NOTHING you can do to make it "act like a USB charging port". It isn't designed to do that.

And data transfer rates are NOT measured in amps.

Prove it. How do you know this port follows standards? The USB 2 ports on my computer can be set to output 1 amp.

I never said the second statement. It is you that has the comprehension problem.

    [Sigh.]

No. You should make the first step to prove that it has hidden features or 'Easter Eggs' beyond the claimed standard.
How did you discover this in your computer? By your own sleuthing, or because your computer's advertised features or manual mentioned or described this additional feature designed into the product?

I see nothing to indicate that Toyota has advertised or described any such features beyond the USB2.0 standard.

The labor cost of continuing this website feud already exceeds the cost of buying and plugging in a simple 2-amp USB charging port into the 12V socket.

    This is a problem?

I bought a 12V, 80W, inverter with two USB ports. Other than a fan that sounded like Darth Vader exhaling every 20 seconds, it worked perfectly.

Yo fuzzy1 and Sam Spade, you're wrong! The port puts out 0.95 amps, as measured.

I would just like to point out that the USB 2.0 spec only covers a minimum amount of power from the port to be compliant. So a 2.0 port should always provide at least 0.5A but can provide more. There is a maximum as well but I don't remember it.

That's really odd. Someone else measured it at 0.38A, IIRC.

Even with 0.95 amps are not enough for today smart phones and tablets....so simpy buy adequate car charger that is capable supplying current to your device.....
    And please don't start fighting....

Agreed for a tablet and maybe/apparently for some Android phones, but enough for an iPhone, as the iPhone power cube is only 1 amp. Sound quality through the USB cable is better than Bluetooth, which is a good reason to use the USB port.

I've used a 12V to 5V 1A charger in my car for years, successfully.

**I** never said anything about the charging current that your specific equipment provides.......except that there is nothing you can do to change it. It is what it IS. If you aren't happy with it, get a different charger.......and stop this senseless argument.

Many of the larger, more recent devices "like" to be charged at 2 amps or a tad more.
Most audio players with a USB port won't come anywhere close to supplying that much.......and it is NOT adjustable.

I can see a use for a slower charge on long trips. I was told by the guy who last sold me a new battery not to leave it on car chargers after the battery is charged. But it was OK to leave it over night on the charger that came with the phone.

But of course a fast charge may be the thing needed next time.

At any rate I just ordered an adapter for the 12v plug. Really got two, not much money, one for another car along with a couple of new springy cords.

Please show me the delivery voltage too. And probable port life expectancy.

That single image does not demonstrate to me that any particular USB2.0 port can meet later USB charging standards. Without meeting standards, interoperability becomes a hit-and-miss issue. One demonstrated hit does not mean that everything else, or even anything else, will work as expected. Some folks may find themselves plagued by misses. Standards are used so that everything that meets said standard, is supposed to work.
