My 2016 is also very low volume. I can hear it when moving, but just barely. No pedestrians seem to hear it. We should be able to adjust the sound level in the settings. It's odd that we can turn up the sound of the "unlock beep", but not the pedestrian warning.

I believe the dealer can adjust it.

That would be good. I would like to have mine louder. Or maybe I need to install this....

Mine is silent when the car is in park. And barely audible is drive.

How did you increase the volume? When I was installing my new Buick horns, maybe I accidentally removed the noisemaker speaker.

I meant just moving, wasn't fully caffeinated. That's the excuse I'll go with, anyway...

Techstream can customize the volume, and whether the noisemaker requires the vehicle to be moving or just in gear to make noise.

Techstream is beyond my technical capabilities.

This morning, it was very strange. The noisemaker never came on at all. Zip, zero, nothing, nada! Completely silent. I tested it in the usual place, between two buildings where the sound will bounce off the walls and I can hear it.

Nothing. She took the day off.

    Just another Prius Oddity.....

If the pedestrian detection system doesn't see anyone why bother with the noisemaker?

Yes, the list is growing more and more…. :)

But this is my first Prius. So the things that I find to be "odd" are probably nothing to all the veteran guys and gals. And the odd things are not a complaint, or a gripe, I actually find them to be pretty funny.

I'm not sure how it works, does it work with a radar? I don't have any radar sensors in the front. My three model doesn't have that. So I usually hear the sound all the time when I'm going slow. Even when there's no people around.

Anyway, it's not a big deal. I go very slow and I'm very cautious anytime there are pedestrians in front or beside my car. A quick beep of the new "Buick Horns" gets there attention.

That is why I suggested the dealer could adjust it.

If I understand it correctly, the noisemakers needs to be active starting September, 2019. Does this mean that there are no legal repercussions if it is not active until then? Like if it accidently gets disconnected or something.

Looking at what somebody else did to get silence, I doubt it.

This would be a requirement for new vehicles, not to be retrofitted to old vehicles.

The feds regulate how a new car must be equipped, it's then up to the states to enforce how a car must be equipped in operation. So, by September 2019, new cars must have this.

Time to make the mosquito and angry bee audio player. There are sounds in nature that actually attract attention. Growling/barking dog or hissing/growling cat also work.
