Upgrading to keyless entry and push button start for less $

So i've been researching this a bit more, and there's actually a second product Advanced Keys makes that utilizes a knob rather than the push button start. The knob is a plastic piece that you put a broken-off metal key into and then permanently leave it in your ignition stock. Then, providing you have the Advanced Key RFID fob in the car with you, all you do is turn the knob and the car starts up. Without the RFID smart key fob, turning the knob won't turn on the car. This seems like an easier solution: less stuff to install, no need to drill a hold for the start button, and seamless switching to regular OEM key if needed. Also--and probably the best perk--it's only $220 vs $350 for the push-button start!

A couple of questions though:

1. I'm going to need an immobilizer bypass. Any recommendations? The OP neglected to mention what immobilizer bypass he used. I'm fairly certain he needed to use one to get his installed in the PC.

2. Will installing this void the Warranty? If so I might just wait until the 2-yr comprehensive warranty expires.

 

xpresskit use to have one listed, but now don't. I prefer their bypass kits. There is also Fortin, their EVO-ALL is apparently compatible with the Prius C.

Warranty - according to I believe magna-moss act they have to prove that what you installed caused something to fail..... IE they can't say the keyless entry caused the engine to fail unless they can prove it was some how miswired and truly did.

I still like the one installed early by Usernameinuse because of the Push Start and the removal of the cylinder key knob. With that configuration look 99.99% OEM. I'm not secure leaving a key by the other option.

 

If you leave a key with no transponder the car is just as hard/easy to steal as the other guys with no key. Either way you'd have to hack the wiring to make the car start, and if installed well that will be difficult at best. It is doable though. There is esentially a wire that needs activated on the bypass module to "fake" that a key is present. In either solution, the start button, or no start button this can be done.

I knew I wasn't the only one trying to upgrade the Prius C2 to the C3. I found a PKE (passive keyless entry system with push button start and bypass module included for $175. This company has been manufacturing car alarms for over 20 years. My instructions came with wiring diagrams for Mercedes and Audi. So thanks a lot for the Prius C diagrams. Going to try and get alarm installed this week. I think $200 for installation is about right? Let you guys know how things turn out.

 

Did you ever get yours installed? What did you end up buying that included everything for only $200? That's pretty cheap.

 

I think from his post he is saying he bought the parts for $175 and is going to pay $200 for install, total of $375
