It looks like they switched back to the chemistry they were using before that is produced in the US. Imagine that, investing into multiple battery sources paying off.

Toyota had plans to make the Prius in the US years ago.

Yes, but Tesla has had their game going for a long time and is well-established. Toyota is just getting into the game.

there was some talk about grabbing a tesla this year because they might be going back to the other batteries.
but someone else said it just might be a marketing ploy to get people to buy now instead of waiting for the new m3

Panasonic worked with tesla I believe to develop and manufacture their batteries. I believe Toyota also uses, worked with, Panasonic even longer. These guys sharpen their swords molecule by molecule, never give up.

In China, Tesla is using local battery companies. The standard range pack is a LFP from CATL. In the past couple years, they had started using that battery globally in the Model 3. With the new federal incentives in the US, it looks like they switched back to the previous chemistry and suppliers.

They both work with Panasonic. Toyota's fault was in their market predictions for plug ins. They expected far lower demand. Thus didn't secure supply for the sales actually seen. It's why the Rav4 Prime is so hard to find, and why the Prius Prime production is slow to grow. It might even be impacting hybrid production.
