While this is true...the decreased weigh DOES make quite a difference. If I drive our 2012 Prius v (wagon) exactly the same way as the 2010 liftback, I have a much harder time keeping the heaver v (wagon) in 'glide' mode....thus reducing MPG... However, note that difference in weight of the v (wagon) is much more than any of the others : BTW the curb weight difference is : 2018 'Gen 4' Two = 3075 lb 2018 'Gen 4' Two Eco = 3010 lb 2010 'Gen 3' Liftback = 3,042 lbs 2012 'Gen 3' Prius v (wagon) = 3.274 lbs
The v also has a different gear ratio on the differential because of the extra weight, which doesn't help mpg.
Yes..they tried to mediate the large increase in weight but it didn't help much. Anyone know what the gear ratio difference actually is? If I remember correctly it is a really minor tweak.

This is a fascinating thread since we're trying to decide which 2018 Prius to get, a Two or an ECO. I'm tempted as I get older by the additional active safety features on the Two which they dropped and am willing to give up on the fuel economy but am hesitating to give up on the 3-door SKS on the ECO. A Three is overkill since I don't want the Navigation system and don't like SofTex and am not sure that the Li-Ion battery is worth the upgrade over the Two. Note that we already have a 2016 ECO which we love and which replaced a Gen 2 Prius. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
I'm not sure of the equipment differences - but any MPG difference would be barely distinguishable in $$ terms - if there was one, so I wouldn't use that aspect (or Li-ION vs NiMH) as a consideration.
I was busy earlier when I flicked that last response - but home now. I think my maths is correct - my projections over 80,000 km (50,000 miles) are that at AUSTRALIAN projected average fuel price of $1.65/LITRE, the difference between averaging 54.5MPG and 57MPG will cost AU$266.00 different. I think $1.65/LITRE is $6.24/US GALLEON if my maths is right - and your fuel price is much cheaper than that, I believe. $266.00 over 50,000 miles isn't a consideration really.
