I did ... unless the deal dropped it! That would explain why it was a lower price than the one I'd ordered. <HUMMMMM>

Autopilot definitely should have lit up the steering wheel blue near the speedometer and took over steering for you.

I may have to be in "P" to enable it.

This is confusing, The Monroney Sticker shows you paid $39K for your car which includes the options ($35K base + $2.5K Plus option + $1.5K paint option = $39K) but those options do not include Autopilot. However, you state you do have TACC which always has been part of the Autopilot option. Maybe you don't have Autopilot and TACC is now part of basic cruise control? It is a mystery to me.
That is correct. There will be a gray steering wheel icon near the speedo when Autopilot is available to activate (which is most of the time but not all the time). The steering wheel icon turns blue when you activate Autopilot.

No, that doesn't work. You activate TACC with a single tap DOWN on the right stock, You activate Autopilot with a quick double tap DOWN on the right stock. ***You cannot activate Autopilot and/or TACC unless the car is moving at least 30 kph (18 mph).

I've gotten over 30 miles in "lane keeping (Beta)" today and it works. But I noticed sensible, safe driving in "lane keeping" tempts other drivers to do stupid things. In one case, an automated emergency braking event. More common, 'last minute' lane changes by others and other eye-opening events.

With TACC (Traffic Aware Cruise Control) and manual steering, I didn't see so many 'events' compared to 'lane keeping'. Right now, I'm not so fond of 'lane keeping' but it may be a question of confidence and tweaking the following distance for TCAA.

Is the TACC also activated with lane keeping, or is the system using a less situational aware cruise control with lane keeping?

With 3500 miles of experience on my car, TACC is independent of LKA (lane keep assist). You can have TACC without LKA, but you cannot have LKA without TACC. LKA simply keeps the car centered between the lines. TACC keeps the car from crashing into other cars when they slow or cut into your lane (exactly the same as the ACC works on my Prius). The big difference between Tesla's TACC and Toyota's ACC is that TACC remains active even when you come to a dead stop, then moves forward when the car in front moves forward. While ACC disengages under about 15 mph.

With TACC, you can set your following distance from 1 to 7. The closer you set your following following distance the more abrupt the braking will be if a car intrudes in your path. I always set my following distance to 7 to avoid abrupt braking. I have never felt uncomfortable with my Tesla's braking behavior with following distance at 7. The braking is smoother and less aggressive when the need arises.

LKA has nothing to do with following distance or sudden braking. Those are functions of TACC. It takes more than a day to find the settings you are most comfortable with. It took me about a week playing with the settings before I found what suited me best.

I ordered it with basic Autopilot and TACC was always on. Just I did not realize enabling 'lane keeping' had to be done while in "P" and not while driving.

I suspect experience will lead to better use of TACC and 'lane keeping.'

Just odd that others got stupider with lane keeping on.

This is not the way it works on my car, but I have EAP not the AP with fewer features. Perhaps they have changed the activation procedure for cars with AP. The online owners manual has not been updated yet, it only addresses EAP, so who knows what the new protocol is.

I will say that some of the toggle switches on my car can be enabled on the U.I. only while the car is in "P" (park), but lane Keep Assist is activated on my car with two, quick taps DOWN on the right stock while driving, not in "P".

I'm sure that he meant that in humor. Some are bad drivers whether I have Autopilot on or not.

I can enter Autopilot (which is combined TACC and LKA) while driving by tapping down twice on the drive stalk. I have the "new" Autopilot, not EAP.

Yes, that's the way mine works too. Mark, do you have a sub-menu in the U.I. with a toggle switch to enable LKA and can only be accessed while in "P"? Maybe that's a function of the new AP. My EAP doesn't require enabling LKA with a toggle, it is always automatically on and available with a double tap down on the right stalk.

Regardless, I'm getting more miles with 'Lane Keeping' and it has been a mixed bag. I think it puts the car in situations where other drivers try to take advantage of the safety margins in dangerous lane changes. Also there are some edge cases:
    1. Best enable when at a constant speed on a straight section.
    2. Turn signal initiated lane changes work IF the lanes are normal. Do not enable in a curve.
    3. It really likes to follow the car ahead even if they are going somewhere else.
    4. Best practice appears to rest palm of hand at 12 o'clock position to avoid prompts. The normal car side motions will provide the torque needed to let the car know you have your hand on the wheel.

    1. yes, that is recommended in the owners manual
    2. yes, cautions against use of auto lane change on curves in owner's manual
    3. yes, that can happen if following too closely. With my following distance set at 7, I don't experience this.
    4. I rest two fingers at 6 o'clock position and rarely get a nag. It takes a while to learn the technique for proper torque on wheel and then it becomes second nature without even thinking about it.

That's an exciting observation. Congratulations on the quick delivery.

Let the fun begin. I'll be following all the details.

    Ad hoc benchmarks
Standard Range Plus Model 3 (SRM3+) vs BMW i3 REx (i3X)

Cold weather aborted our camping trip to Tunica. So I visited a friend at Lacon AL which by happy accident involved two SuperCharger sessions in Athens AL. Unplanned and not rigorously matched, it did give a few clues.

    EV to Nashville - i3X
    • 76.1 mi - HSV to Manchester, $11.50 ($5.25 = $2.69 * (76.1 mi / 39 MPG))
    • 67.1 mi - Manchester to Greenhills YMCA, $14.70 ($4.63)
    EV to Athens - SRM3+
    • 36.1 mi - HSV to Lacon Flea Market
    • 33.3 mi - Lacon Flea Market to Athens, $5.72 ($4.79)
EV Athens Round Trip - SRM3+
    • 99.9 mi - Athens to Lacon Flea Market to Ardmore to Athens, $5.50 ($6.89)
Now we can calculate the Supercharger cost per mile:
    • $0.062 / mi - total
      • $0.072 / mi - coldest trip, ~40F
      • $0.055 / mi - last and warmest trip, ~50F
Here are the equivalent gas prices based on EPA specs for i3X:
    • $0.069 / mi - gas estimates
Finally, the Electrify America and EVgo costs for i3X:
    • $0.183 / mi - total CCS
      • $0.151 / mi - Electrify America
      • $0.219 / mi - EVgo
    CONCLUSIONS

My Supercharger miles are in the same order of magnitude as i3X gas miles and both are ~1/3d the cost of CCS electricity. Yes, comparing the cost per mile of an efficient 2019 Tesla SRM3+, 134 MPGe, and 2014 BMW i3X, 117 MPGe, are not well matched but they are what I have in hand.

I think @bwilson4web seven day return window has expired. I guess he is keeping his 3SR+. (y)
