At least based upon our Advanced, it’s above all else a very practical and comfortable car. So, congratulations in advance! Anybody know whether there were any substantial changes in the Advanced version in 2018? My guess would be not likely. I think it’s worth adding that the additional features of the Advanced, I at least find to be well worth the money, especially the ultrasonic sensors!
The ultrasonic sensors and all would be nice, but they do add $5000 extra for features that aren't worth it for me, especially with the hit in deprecation I will be taking. The extra for the Premium to the Plus seems like a much better overall value in my case. Still waiting to hear back from the Portland dealer, they will be doing a sight unseen offer on my trade in. They still have not moved any of the '17s off their lots.
Mostly the same. There's something about different steel stamping but that's getting into the technical stuff.
I don’t claim to know, but I wouldn’t be surprised if 2018 P.Primes are being produced in a more-automated, higher-volume, less-prototype-oriented factory than where the 2017s (especially the early ones) were made. I also wouldn’t be surprised if 2018s incorporate a few small tweaks to their internals, not easily visible to drivers — tweaks likely in common with all Gen-4s.

At this point I’ve decided to go with 2018 or later and just wait for a good deal on a Premium or Advanced after the promotion and putting more equity on my current. Pays to be patient. iPhone ?
All in all reasonable, I’d say. FWIW, we have a 2009 that’s still working fine (although has >130K miles), but when my wife (finally) decided to get her driver’s license, meaning that we needed two cars anyway, I jumped for the P.Prime Advanced. As it turns out, she still has not gotten her full driver’s license, but I’m still glad we got the P.Prime right away: I am now driving about 45 miles per day, and I really want the ADAS functions to help keep me safe when I drive so many miles! I’ve been driving for about 40 years with no accidents of any significance, but TSSP and blind-spot monitoring/rear cross-traffic monitoring really improves a my driving confidence!
I may go the Advanced based on a number of other factors, I just want no regrets when I buy it since part of the deal is drive this one until we pay the house off (8-10 years), so may be worth it to get the one I really want. Seeing that I spend a ton of time in my car might be worth the added peace of mind. Plus the automated parking looks like a fun little piece of tech.
The Advanced’s “robopark” does a pretty good job. Remember that it positions your car, in essence, midway between the cars you’re parking between, so if those cars are parked badly then you might end up parked only so-so too. Its ultrasonic sensor system has “saved me” a few times. All but one of those times it would have been just an inch per second into stationary and fairly soft objects in my own garage, but one time, it probably did prevent me from hitting the car in front of me (2MPH or so, but still!). That would-have-been accident was because of what I perceive to be a fundamental design flaw of the 11.6” screen software: Menus pup up from the bottom of the screen rather than down from the top, which takes our eyes farther off the road!
If you're talking about the bubbles, you can have them show up on the 4.2" MID. Swipe up to reveal the bubbles (instead of pressing MENU). If you're talking about the radio/climate, yeah it's a bit low. I understand the part about having nav at the top so you can see your route but if you're asking to change audio/climate stuff, you'd think that should be at the top too (since it's temporary). I guess Toyota thinks because you can leave the audio or climate screen on (i.e. just leave it in split screen), they'd rather have the nav at the top. Also, you can change some audio and climate things via your steering wheel and the 4.2" MID but not all of it. I, for one, would like the AUTO climate control to be available in the 4.2" MID climate menu. As it is, you have to fumble for the AUTO button on the 11.6" screen. (and to think, 2 generations ago, it used to be on the steering wheel)
Yeah, primarily audio and climate. I like the Tesla Model S & X split screen, letting you to choose where you want the map.
So I just found out my company will have 15 charge stations by fall (they currently have 10). Promotion is currently in process and will be getting ready to order my Prime Premium when I see good incentives. I’m going to get the illuminated door sills because they look awesome. iPhone ?
Excellent! You’ll love it. What color? How much do they charge ($$$) per minute and/or week and/or per KWh at work? Thankfully, Austin Energy customers can sign up for a $50/year all-you-can-charge buffet around town! Essentially $1 per week, which, if it were gas money instead, would buy me enough to get me to work Monday morning, and about 30% of the way back! So, luckily for me, it’s not only burning almost no gas, but I’m also getting all-but-free “juice”! On the downside though, we have only 5 chargers at work. Almost never, but a few times, I‘ve been unable to “fill ‘er up” at work due to a combination of me and/or the “electron pumps” being busy all day.
$0.06\kWh at work and my home is $0.0867\kWh. My commute is 21 miles, it’s more uphill to work and more downhill to home. Near perfect setup. As far as color, I will get the Blizzard Pearl. I love it on my ‘18 Two Eco. I am having a hard time justifying the extra 4K for the Advanced so I think the Premium with a couple little additions will be perfect (all weather mats, illuminated door sills, and maybe even tint). iPhone ?
Fairly-similar situation here: Blizzard Pearl, Advanced, with a 19-mile (each way) commute. Some elevation changes on the way, but not huge.
Lol, I saw that. Still waiting on a couple other things to line up though, so I just need to be patient still. iPhone ?
