You were right! Didn't even take me five minutes.

I loosened the bolts, bounced the car, tightened the bolts, and took it for a spin. Completely eliminated the noise and it even feels a little more solid now.

Thank you all so much, my lesson learned here is to always read the instructions, especially if I think I know what I'm doing!

i backed my car up on ramps. blocked the front wheels and just stuck my chubby little fingers behind the strut . ther is no need to remove the wheels/ struts etc...

whole install took 30 min including drinking two beers (y)
car handles much better . great cheap mod. every Prius should come with one from the factory

Old thread... but are folks doing this without a torque wrench to tighten the upper end link bolt? I can't seem to find a way to get a torque wrench in place without removing the lower shock mount bolt. I backed the car onto ramps too.

I chose to do this without unmounting the shock mounts. I wouldn't, as a matter of policy, go about advising people to ignore torque specs. Unlike torquing flywheel bolts, or head bolts, there isn't nearly the amount of precision involved with the stress limits of the bolts on the sway bar. I consider guestimating the torque on the upper mount bolts an acceptable risk relative to the payoff in terms of installation convenience.

Would upgrade the sway and/or springs affect the alignment? I had changed shock and springs for my BMW and never got alignment right, and need to change tire every 15-20k miles.

They sway shouldn't affect alignment, but lower will. I recommend buying camber bolts for the front and adding them to your install. Their relatively inexpensive and give you some adjustment besides toe.

sway bar doesnt alter the wheel geometry . lowering the car with springs takes the wheels and does this /\ which causes shoulder wear

i torqued the sway mount and used a ratcheting box wrench on the upper link .

A set of crows feet will help with hard to reach bolts to Torque down.

I'm not a huge fan of crash (camber) bolts; there are a few ways to adjust in the TRD springs on install to end with -0.4 to -0.5 degrees camber which is likely plenty for most. The last few installs I have done the alignment shop didn't even touch the camber, just toe.

I have a 2010 Prius II I just purchased from my local Toyota Dealer with 45,000 miles, and new 195/65-15 Yokohama AVID Ascend tires on it. I have put a little over a 1,000 miles on it. I read a lot of posts that people are having trouble with the way the car handles at highway speeds and adding anti sway bars and other mods. I can take mine out on the interstate at 75 mph with 1 hand on the steering wheel and get a very comfortable and steady ride. No wobble shimmy or anything . In fact it handles better than my Honda CRV I traded in on it. Im beginning to wonder if the previous owner added some Mods to the suspension .

crawl under it and take a look . the trd sway bar and springs are usually white so they'll stand out . then again if there even is a rear sway bar then you have one . because stock the car doesn't come with it lol

Interesting perspective. I have not heard of problems with camber bolts. Care to elaborate?

Dosen't look like any anti sway attached. Only one bar under rear just in front of rear wheel wells going from side to side. Maybe its just the tires but it shure holds the road nice at 70 to 75 mph.Feels good on corners and curves also.

    Love my Prius!!!!

I got mine 25% off retail, $209.25 plus tax.

Most Toyota parts stores give 15-20% coupons if you ask or look online at there website. On rare occasions they give 25-30%.

Simply research your local Toyota parts place and ask to talk to the parts manager. I hope that helps. =]

The reason they are referred to as "Crash Bolts" is because they are used after the car has been wrecked, to allow a greater range of adjustment, in order to get back to factory settings. The crash bolts are tapered, and are more likely to slip, losing the camber setting that has been dialed in.
