Same thing, different name.

That's the DRCC's normal resume time. The extended resume time lifts that time from a few seconds to around 3 minutes, same as TJA. But it doesn't have the hands-off ability of TJA.

 

Try any road with your speed under 25 mph and both the DRCC and LTA (not LKA) turned on (not just enabled), and see if you get a hold-the-steering-wheel warning. If not, the TJA is working.

In my 2021 Prius Prime Limited, it works, except that you need to hold the steering wheel. Therefore, it cannot be considered to be TJA.

Try calling it through the Toyota Assistant at low speed. It will have a different animation screen on the dash if it's on.

 

In other regions with only the "DRCC extended resume time", that's tied to working navigation. So you need either the built-in navigation or a subscription. All European cars have built-in navigation (possibly for the benefit of the speed limit alerts), and it's optional in Japan.

I believe TJA is only available in the US, and no US cars have built-in navigation, so we don't know if that could work without a subscription if you didn't need a subscription for navigation.

 

Does it means that a destination must be inserted in the navi, or simply that DRCC ext uses the navigation in shadow mode?

 

In "shadow mode". The only function I'm aware of that needs a destination set is the Predictive EV Drive.

I hope soon we can have TJA hands-free in more EU country.
In the meantime i think is approuved only highway hands free in UK, Germany & Spain.
