I have a 2009 with 168,000 plus miles (I drive 120 miles almost every day) So far no traction battery issues to report.

Battery acted squirrely for a few days first thing in the morning - started with indicator in the middle, then dropped suddenly to one bar. When I tried to move from a stop sign, got a slipping feeling before the engine revved high. After that it seemed normal for the rest of the day. Yesterday I made it most of the way to work. At a stoplight, the indicator dropped down to one bar, then suddenly was completely green. Half a mile later the dashboard lit up with warning indicators & battery cooling blower came on high speed. The car would still drive, but not fast enough to move in traffic. Had it towed to the dealership & replaced the battery for $3780.

Most of my driving is stop and go around town. The service manager said the battery lasts longer if you drive on the highway more. He also said they're keeping batteries in stock because they're starting to see a lot of failures.

2004, traction battery pack failed at 139,000 miles. Replaced free under warranty.
Dealer tried to charge me for replacing cables to reconnect the battery, but I objected and these
    bogus charges vanished.

My 2009 was totaled by a semi with 106,000 miles. It will never get a chance to have a battery failure.

Whining about how many folks are on Prius Chat, when you restrict answers to Gen2 (and I feel I cheated by answering for a totaled car) is just silly.

Can't seem to cast a vote - no option to do so. I wanted to add a 2008 with 93,000 miles - no problems with hybrid battery. My 2005 is now over 210,000 and going strong :)

Yep, was my wife's daily car, now I drive it with less miles per day.

She got a 2014 Prius V to drive now, very nice car. It's a two and the only thing we miss is the smart key lock/unlock on passenger door and rear lift. Really a pain in the nice person. I didn't want to spring for upgrade to just get it and other stuff I didn't want. Now, I hear about it all the time.

Pretty much exact same here (wife's car) we are trying to figure out of we need a v but we have a minivan so we're seeing if that'll do. We got 2 child seats in the Prius and looks like we need three soon..

The battery on the gen2 is different to both the previous, and later models so including those would cloud the results for the gen2 Prius.
