yeah, new Prius is not only 60% stiffer than old one, it is also a lot stiffer than Lexus GS, car that wins handling comparos left and right, and was previously the stiffest car in the TMC empire. This allows them fit softer springs, and together with multilink at the rear, it leads to 3x better bump absorption than before.

I wonder if Toyota will put their best effort into the PiP version, or do a half-hearted job just because everyone expects a PiP version?

How would you quantify best effort?

If they are serious about selling them in January they should be releasing numbers about this time.

the rigidity of gen4 is improved, and it has lower CG, so all this should be addressed.

To me, the current PiP is the best effort. They tried to put in as much EV miles without robbing cargo space or gas MPG hit. The optimal balance was achieved.

Despite that, PiP emission is almost the same (a bit better than) as the regular Prius. If Toyota went with bigger battery, it would end up with higher emission such as Ford Energi, Volt, etc.

Agree that it was the right balance for its (design) time.
The future PiP should have larger battery if they don't want to stay behind. Volt 2 emission is already lower on US average and the grid is getting greener. Several European main markets have lower carbon intensity grids than US average (and high tax on gasoline).

Awful bad data info graphic. Are the power and weight of the gen IV correct?

Toyota's logo at the bottom, meaning they've signed off on it. Not good if it's riddled with errors.

Cargo space data may not be right, but who knows maybe the are right about system power .
I still find it hard to believe they reduced system power vs. gen. 3 Prius !
We will find out about system power on Friday anyway !

I dont know where to start answering this... no, Toyota does not sign off any blog article in the world, let alone every... no you dont need Toyota's permission to use their logo or pictures in online articles.

And no this information is not correct, and it shouldnt have been posted here in the first place. Dont be naive and stop believing nonsense...

"Attack of the Clone: Is this the 2017 Prius Plug-in Two-Mode Transmission?
No Prius transmission has ever used clutches but it turns out that Toyota now has a freshly minted “Two-Mode” patent derived from the 3rd generation Prius Hybrid Synergy Drive. The patent, published on January 1, 2015, is US 20150005125.

Is this the hybrid system Toyota’s customers are looking for?

The new design uses 2 (or optionally 3) clutches to support the original Prius EVT mode plus a higher-speed EVT mode and a dual motor EV mode intended for a “vehicle such as a plug-in hybrid vehicle, which is frequently placed in an EV drive mode”. The similarities to the Chevrolet Volt transmission cannot go unnoticed."

Patent "prior art" suggesting Toyota's legal representation was incompetent! But we knew that already.
