Something for UsedToLoveCars to worry about instead! Consumer Reports: Hybrids Are More Reliable Than Plug-ins And EVs
^ Except this is comparing one car to a full line of vehicles. You can find individual models from any of these manufactures (even Toyota) that would place them at or very near the bottom.
The Tesla is definitely a complicated car. It would be nice to see those stats for the Model S broken down into Model year.
What is it that makes a Tesla a complicated car? I think of simplicity as one of the main virtues of EVs.
It appears Tesla is one of those car for driving experience, not for ownership experience. After 2 generations of Prius ownership, I couldn't be any happier. Maintenance is low.
I just looked them up. I'm sure that they are cool and are fun to play with but talk about "designed to fail".
of course it is much easier to make one, expensive vehicle, then 12 different models that many of are very cheap cars with parts designed to price. This is why Lexus is always rated better than Toyota - more expensive cars have more expensive parts that are less likely to fail in 3 years that these surveys cover. Merged yellow line shows different model years... so at best, it is 70.... still the worst there.
Maintenance is even lower on the Tesla, but not cheap. My 10 years of service on the Prius cheaper than 2 years of someone from Tesla plugging in their computer. $600 to read your car, really?
One thing for sure Tesla isn't for budget oriented minds. Are you saving on gas? Yes. Are you saving any money with TOC? Hell no. Are you saving environment? Perhaps. But it is a cool car, no doubt.
i think it's a vote for a better future, but a peoples car is always a better vote. but tesla will lead the way, and there will be trickle down technology.
people are buying the cool...and people buying it for $100k think the cool factor outweighs the bad by far. Now, things will change quickly when: a. these cars start to be out of warranty - from next year? b. If same happens to their $30k car, where it wont be tolerated because these people wont have several backup vehicles.
I remember in the 90s Ford introduced the Contour boasting a rear multi-link suspension. I test drove one on a very windy day and was impressed how insensitive the car was to side winds. I bought a Civic instead as nothing else about the Contour impressed me. According to wikipedia the Multi-link suspension allows the auto designer the ability to incorporate both good ride and good handling in the same vehicle. This was the first vehicle to employ it. Between the new suspension and the vortex generators, I expect the Gen 4 to be much more stable at high speeds and in strong crosswind scenarios - Less side-to-side buffeting or fewer steering corrections needed.
Driving like a grandpa, all this high end stability control improvement just leaves me a bit perplexed; it seems just fine now.
I wouldn't mind if my Prius had a more stable, grounded driving feel at freeway speeds (65 MPH+). Also, I notice sideways flex in the car when I drive over uneven pavement at parking lot speeds (couple miles an hour). Not horrible but could be better. Btw, anything think the Tokyo Motor show will bring more info about 2016 Prius? Show is from Oct 29 to Nov 8th.
then you will like how much less disturbed is by the potholes There is something for everyone with new Prius.
