The term "suicide doors" comes from the perception that if the rear door is unlatched while the car is moving, it is more likely to accidentally open. They were once common (remember the Lincoln Continentals of the early '60s?) but automakers stopped using them because of safety concerns. Newer cars such as the Element have rear suicide doors that can only open if the front door is opened first.
Obviously, auto makers never refer to them as "suicide doors"; that would not be wise marketing.

It's slang term for car doors that are hinged at the rear instead of at the front. If you open this type of door while driving it will tend to fly completely open, whearas a "regular" door will try to stay shut.

I just love it. Toyota comes up with solid car design for the future and GM complains about the competition, comes up with the latest CEO bonuses, employee buyouts and layoffs. What's wrong with this picture????

Don't think its just another artist impression.
This is as real as it gets for a concept. Next is getting it drivable as a technology testbed.
But yeah, I don't think its gonna make it into production line.

I'm guessing you're talking about polycarbonate (Lexan is/was the trade name by GE I believe).

I'm not sure how scratch resistant it is though.

I hope so. Someone in the other thread just asked about the "Suicide Doors", but I'm pretty sure that was answered in this thread.
    I haven't found it yet.
