Well I'm glad for me too but what about other owners going there

At least I've called Toyota Canada this morning to complain.

Later today I will go to see the service manager and I will give him the printed instructions just in case he cares and hoping he will transmit the information to the inept mechanic.

If I can at least "save" one Prius owner from getting the wrong thing serviced, I'll be glad. :D

is the coolant part of the 'replacement'? I inquired at my dealer here and they said they reuse the inverter coolant in this campaign. Does anyone have it written from Toyota that this is true? Seems to be a bit dodgy...replace the inverter pump but not the coolant?

Anyway, they at least acknowleged there are 2 cooling systems when i asked what it would cost to do the engine coolant change (I'm at 97,000 miles) at the same time. $130.

Thanks to anyone who has a more 'official' read on if the coolant itself is required to be replaced with this inverter pump deal.

don't let them do it. other dealers have triedthe same thing, then, they get reimbursed by toyota for new coolant. you can find the recall in a search.

Well, Pearl's inverter coolant pump was replaced yesterday. No fuss no muss. Other than I had to unplug the Scangauge II and then reconnect it, messing up the wiring that was stuffed under the dash. I wonder if that's considered in the "unintended acceleration". "Those wires caught my foot, officer". ;) For those who worry, I fixed it, the wires are stuffed back up there.
Oh, and I had to turn the heater back down to 22C before I melted (mechanic had it at max heat).

A VERY positive service writer at Kingsway Toyota. All in all a very good customer experience.

Are you sure that the inverter coolant pump was replaced, not the engine coolant pump? No reason to set the cabin temp to MAX HEAT if the inverter coolant system is being purged. That is something you would do if you were trying to get air out of the engine coolant loop.

:(... like Patrick Wong just said, why is that ?? The HV coolant system is NOT linked at all with the ICE (engine) coolant system.

Normally when you flush the ICE coolant you need to put max heat to allow the coolant to get into the cabin rad... but again, not needed at all for the HV system

You two and I know that, but apparently either the tech was from an equatorial country or he didn't know that. Maybe he just wanted the engine to run continuously.
Last month they did the engine coolant pump (the mechanical one), and that time the temp control was set at +30C. Noticed that a few weeks later on a "warm" day (+3!!) when a friend and I began sweating in the car. ;) This time I checked right away, as it was a "hot" day (+7!!!).
