Oh, certainly, I'm not complaining about it being caught, recalled, and fixed. I'll be getting it taken care of on my car at the 6 month service, most likely, if the parts are in by then. (Or, before then, if I have the failure - it's the kind of thing that'll be obvious, because the parking brake cable will let go, and the pedal will become a lot easier to press.)

Early news coverage was claiming that deaths had resulted, though, and... You'd have to be rather stupid (far more so than, say, the people who were missing Park in Jeep Grand Cherokees) to die from this. (That said, most people that I know that drive automatics don't use the parking brake in them, so this flaw wouldn't affect them at all. The Grand Cherokee shifter deaths, however, would have been prevented by using the parking brake...)

Turns out, those reports of deaths were false, and there haven't even been any crashes.

I can't see the cable disengaging due to a rubber boot clip. More likely that after a couple of years of water ingress and lack of use, the cable may seize and stretch and not fully operate the brake. Hence the lack of urgency to fix it, it's a long term problem and only comes into play when an idiot is in charge of the vehicle.

Nothing yet, just don't get a bacon double cheeseburger stuck under the pedal or it will fail to operate.

 Oh man, everybody is ganging up on the poor innocent coast cruiser.
OK, I will be sure to not drop my foot-long sub sandwich down there.

I pressed the P button, and that message you see in the picture popped up on the screen.
    Recall! Recall! :ROFLMAO:

    It says " while stopped."

Has anybody accidentally hit the "P" button in their Prius while driving at highway speeds?

"while stopped" is stated in the sentence.

And a couple people said they had water in their headlights.

And somebody mentioned water in one of the taillights.

And another guy said his moonroof never closes right, and it's noisy as all hell from the wind.

Never buy a car in the first year of a remodel, I was told. Two people told me not to buy it yet. But I thought Toyota had the Prius down to a science...

I did it, just to see what would happen. In fact, there was another thread about this.

Nothing happens, Toyota must-have anticipated somebody hitting that button by accident. I think a message popped up on the screen that said, "that function not available", or something like that.

You can also scroll through and change the driving modes on the fly. That doesn't hurt anything either.

Yes, I was reading yesterday that Toyota GB stated they are not aware of any deaths, crashes or injuries.

So I contacted my local dealer in London, since the online recall checker told me to contact a dealer for further information or to book an appoint to rectify the issue. I contacted them and they told me Toyota has not provided them with any technical information, and as a result they can't do anything right now, not even book me in. When I asked how long before they might know what's going on, they told me it's likely to be a few weeks.

In addition, I decided to email Toyota GB and share the original Reuters story which mentioned the recall story (this was before it was showing up on the online recall checker), and I was just asking them if they had further details above and beyond what's in the press.

Interestingly, their response was to direct me to a Daily Mail article with news of the recall, which is just the standard news story.
