Looks like the arrival of Eminent Ace is "imminent." OK, twelve hours probably isn't really imminent. I just wanted to be the first one to post it. I'm sure for the crew the longest part of the trip is over. But for those of us waiting in So Cal, it's yet to come.

 

In witch boat mine will come in to New York?..................

Go down to the Newark ports and check out the SUNBELT SPIRIT, arrived Wednesday.

 

She just made the turn north east after the Farallon's.... and the first thing that just popped into my mind is the famous line from that horse race announcer:

"...and down the stretch they come!!"

Looks like they had her in a holding pattern by the port. Guess she was early and the birth isn't ready yet. Must be fun doing 180's with a boat that big! (yikes!) Just a few more hours to the "official" arrival time.

Update: Now she's heading back out under the bridge... I wonder if there's an issue b/c the winds are around 20MPH right now up there... don't leave!!!

Next update: I shouldn't be up right now, and will stop watching, but she's now going back under the Richmond Bridge too. Maybe they want her to hold for the next few hours in area south of the Bay Bridge? They do know they have to dock and drop off the cars before heading down to Long Beach, right?

 

The track is a little off. Itineraries has her stopped right on time. 2012-02-25 10:01 (utc) EMINENT ACE STOPPED. Turn and burn looks like they were ready to off load and go and maybe not that many vehicles.

I'm a total novice at interpreting this stuff, but I saw on three different charts three different times, all supposedly UTC. They were 06:00 and 15:00 on 2/25, and 23:00 on 2/24. What am I missing here? Also, do you know the approximate time from Benicia to Long Beach for these cargo ships?

I saw that designation, and it looked like the ship was headed in the wrong direction for Benicia, but I wasn't sure what to make of it. Does that have something to do with the different ETA times I mentioned?

 

2 day are normal to Long Beach. Port times change all the time. The original time estimate is not for anther hour as I type this so maybe they didn't offload and are going back after some sightseeing.

This isn't normal. First time I have ever seen one of these ships sail south into SF Bay. Where is the EMINENT ACE going? Sunnyvale? Photo op if your in the area. Maybe that's what they are doing?

 

Yep, as I predicted, she went south of the Bay Bridge to a holding spot. She hasn't off-loaded any cars yet, as her track doesn't indicate that she was in the actual Benicia port at any point. Must have been a snafu at the dock, perhaps some other boat was late to leave. Who knows how long it will take now... :noidea:

 

Those cars are going to definitely have a case of sea legs after that long journey!

 

Looks like she finally made it to the dock, at roughly 12:30 pm PST, if I understand the whole UTC.

 

UTC is just the new name for GMT Greenwich mean time basically.
What is UTC or GMT Time? Has a really nice chart to since of this.

Right. So did I figure it right at UTC minus 8 hours for PST?
