In heads up, the compass does give your heading. The red arrow is north. Up is your heading in relation to north.

North up generally. Too many years with paper maps and marine charts printed north up I guess. Tough to read those city and road names if the map is upside down or sideways or whatever. I guess my brain has been trained.

Even though my Prius doesn't have a nav system, I know I'd use North Up if I had one. :)

I never rotate maps either, so there. :p

I was REALLY hoping Santa would have had time to "weigh" in on this one.

He's got to have a hybrid. Or a Comet.

Probably uses the modified Nav system with polar coordinates.

Does anyone have a way the Nav can be programmed while driving so at least the passenger can get addresses while driving? Maybe their is a link to the hack someone where in Priuschat?

Not sure what you are referring to 'Get Addresses', but there are some posts and a KB on this forum on temporarily disabling the speed sensor to the MFD and the NAV. There are drawbacks/side effects on killing speed input to NAV.

Heads-up only for me. I have yet to take a long trip (greater than 25 miles) in my Prius. When I do so, I will likely be inclined to use North up and a higher zoom level (I'm currently at 700ft), to get more of a "big map" type of view.

Having said that, my son just got an RC car for Christmas, and I am utterly useless navigating the thing, probably because I haven't trained my brain to think properly about the correct orientation for making turns. It's pretty sad that a 5 year old drives better than I do!

I use North up to get a general feel of where I'm going, then switch to Head up when I get close to my destination to aid in finding where I'm going.

I think my North up preference for general location bearings comes from having to read a map while flying (back in the day when I had a pilot's license)...

I find dual map handy. What's particularly good is that it remembers the zoom settings for single and dual map separately, so I can switch between

Single map, heading up, scale 200yd (for town)

    and

Left map, heading up, scale 400yd +
Right map, north up, scale 4mi (for out of town)

just by saying "Dual map" or "Single map".

I've also just set up the "Off" function to remove more clutter - it now only shows the heading and scale on the left map, and the Enter button (when applicable).

Press the compass icon on the top left while viewing your current position. It'll switch between heading up and north up (represent with an "N" in the icon)
