I took it from the chart on the link in post #1. At the top of the chart it says "Each circle is a corporate PAC that has donated to the 147 election objectors since Jan. 6, 2021" and in the chart it shows "Toyota 37 donations". Combined with the wording in the following paragraphs, I interpreted that as 37 donations were made to a total of 147 people. The chart shows around $58K was donated.

Reading further down, I see that there is a conflicting statement that says "Toyota gave $55,000 to 37 GOP objectors this year". We'll assume that's the factual one. That comes out to an average of $1486.4864 per person. OK. I should know better than to trust charts in these links.

I don't know about you, but there is not a lot that I would do for $1486 that I was not already willing to do. Would anyone reading this thread change their political views for $1486????

It definitely is not PriusChat playing a role, at least this time... If you scroll through the thread you'll be clear on where the pressure came from. It just took a week for the village idiots at corporate to catch up to the backlash of yet another failure from US millionaire Toyota executives who hate their job.

When a corporation you signed a contract with scams you out of $500 and you're rich and are in politics, it doesn't mean much the first time... But when you reflect on where the scam of your co-conspirators is going as relates to your basic rights and freedoms in the name of overthrowing the constitution that your democracy is based on maybe when you reflect on what that $500 warning sign at scale really means in the long run your concern might grow?

The long game is what Toyota just backed out on with no longer donating to the treason party leaders of GQP this week. The long game is also something that "sends chills down their spine" when GQP leaders realize that their easy corporate cash flow they can rely on redundantly is now falling apart because they voted against the certification of election results that had zero reason to question the validity of while they were busy celebrating the willful aiding and abetting of near 600 indictements against people engaging in the attempted murder of enough Democrats to return them to majority rule... There's nothing left to doubt about the loss of a $500 donation denied being the tip of the iceberg of your political demise.

As I said in many posts in this thread... The next couple election cycles are going to be defined by this and the implications of these moments are going to snowball in huge ways.

I don’t need to make this endlessly complicated. And the situation is complicated, with many layers, thousands of people involved, numerous variables, etc. All I need to know is:
    1. Is the company selling something I want to buy?
    2. Is the company doing things I disagree with?
if the answer is “no” to either of these questions, then I won’t be their customer. Not sure how anyone can try to argue and persuade me otherwise as it is my choice.

Amazon is still a billion-dollar company and growing every day despite my refusal to order from them because I disagree with their labor practices. Fine. But at least I’m comfortable with the fact that as little of my money as possible is contributing to its wealth.

As for Toyota, I’m glad they changed gears (pun intended :)). But as a concerned consumer, I’ll be aware of their actions and decide where to spend my money when the time comes.

I'm too old and cynical to think Toyota is stopping anything that would have an impact. All they have done is stop contributions directly to those individual politicians and their supporting PACs. Considering how quickly they resumed donating after their previous announcement, I fully expect Toyota and their executives to now donate directly to the Republican party with the caveat that none of Toyota's donations go towards those individuals. I see it as Toyota having no problem with the Republicans using those funds to replace the Republican funding of other politicians. Other companies' donations then can be redirected to support the anti-constitutionalists. Toyota is simply trying to find a way to win a public relations fiasco by misleading people again.

FYI, I started as a conservative Republican but have been registered with moderate third parties for the last 23 years. The Republican party I grew up with and worked for no longer exists.

And it scares the CRAP out of me.
I never realized before that there are so many total MORONS in the country.
And they seem to be multiplying like rabbits.

So yes, it is really important what kind of and how much "support" the Fascists get in their quest to take over the Country......and the world.......AGAIN.

    LOL!
I used to feel that way about Apple - but they actually make pretty good phones, and their direct competitors use child labor too, which would leave me with zero choices.

We'll see how all of this plays out in 22 but if you ask me, a $500 contribution is less than a rounding error in a Senate race that goes into 10 figures.

See you at the polls! :D

So, here's a related question. If Toyota's contribution is considered too small to have any influence on politicians, why did they contribute such a small amount?

There are limits on what can be contributed directly. Besides... it's a token contribution. As explained by my company (AT&T at the time) the lobbyists use it as an opening to ask for a direct meeting with the politician IF they ever need to talk to them one on one about an issue. At the time, AT&T's PACs were contributing equally to all candidates up for election, regardless of whether they were democrats, republican or independents.

Also, as mentioned upthread in #78, the searchable FEC records can show contributions that are individually small, but repeated over and over to the same recipients.
