Featured Toyota Highlander to go BEV

    I’m guessing it’s because of the overlap between Highlander and Grand Highlander.

    This might give them a way to price the Highlander the same as a Grand Highlander Hybrid Max. BEV and slightly smaller or larger and Hybrid only.

    What do you mean? It currently offers a hybrid variant. It has had a hybrid version since 2006.

    Personally I thought for sure they would have made it hybrid only like the 2025 Camry and Crown to help with the slot above the RAV4 Hybrid. A 3 row hybrid only SUV at a slightly lower price point than the Crown Signia or gas-only Grand Highlander.

    As an EV, the Highlander BEV will sit slightly above the Lexus RZ and Toyota bZ4X siblings in size and with 3 rows but with the same wheelbase. I kind of imagine they'll redo the PPES 71.4 kWh for the US factory and make it smaller and lighter with more efficient electronics.

    We don't know. In theory, it should be its own architecture because remember that article that said Toyota is delaying new launches of EV to revise their plan from the e-TNGA to a dedicated platform?

    Report: Toyota dedicated EV platform may be five years off
    BUT, 5 months later in May 2023: Toyota is creating a dedicated BEV platform for its next-gen EVs
