*they are always changing and improving anyway.... not sure there would be a relation to a problem.
*What are they supposed to do to the customers who bought their cars? Not sure what the real question is?
*Don't know.. is that the case with the other manufacters too?... maybe is was the oil they used.

The point is, maybe they did have a problem.. I have no way of proving they didn't, but you have no way of proving they did?

Why were other manufacturers having the same problem during the same time?.. Do you suppose they caught the "toyota virus"?

Well because new technology is literally "going where no man has gone before"... there is no way "ever" can we say.. there now are no bugs. Adequate testing means that no bugs occur after every concievable condition is "recreated and tested".

However, its hard to "simulate" real time effect on longevity of parts and fluids.

The sludge was an effect that apparently was new to the time... although I do remember in the early 80's that penzoil would become black peanut brittle if you got your car too hot or didn't change the oil. Mechanics hated it!

Similated tests usually assume the user will within reason abide by reasonable maintainence schedules.

Some folks literally "never" change their oil until it burns low and the light comes on or the engine fails. And there are many levels in-between. Some go 10- 15K before changing.. and then its the "manufacturers fault when their oil turns into peanut butter!

Having recall with cutting edge is to be expected.... hopefully they are minor.. the real question is... how well does the manufacturer back its product?

Thats why I the first thing I checked before considering such technology was "what was the warranty?"
