    Not really. Most of the time most people just "think" that "their" schedule is important.
    In reality:
    a) it isn't that important
    b) you are late due to poor planning
    c) you could have owned an EV and plugged in the night before and started the day with a full battery instead of needing to get gas on the way to work

    Don’t be so dismissive.
    I haven’t had a gas car in the household for almost 7 years.
    In that time we’ve had death’s in the family, emergency visits to the hospital, short notice weekend trips and so on.
    Not once in that time have we had any trouble reaching any of these mission critical events.
    In addition, the planning, for us, for all trips is simpler. I say this because I am not late to appointments and such as often as I used to be.

    Other EV owners I speak to mention the same thing.
    Many other new drivers of PHEVs or BEVs mention how surprised they are how much less range they need. They thought, prior to buying, that they would need more range.

    Please note, I am not saying EVs will work for everyone. Some people do have atypical driving patterns combined with the inability to charge conveniently. I am just suggesting it is a lot fewer people than most people think.

    I hope this short departure from this threads subject is entertaining to at least a couple others too.
    I wouldn't have remembered this one without your help, it was a short run, but no mistaking that rocket launch sequence. And the same Title as another members @Elektroingenieur ? prius project cars name


    What year was your cabriolet? My best friend from Redwood City got a new 73 silver 914 2,0l . it was the first 5 speed I'd ever driven. His mom had a 69 ? 911 that he said she offered to give him as a bribe during family negotiations, but opted for the new 914 instead.
    If I recall correctly, didn't Toyota invest heavily in Tesla many moons ago? If you still see Dr Evan over at Tesla forum? please tell him I said Hi.
    I can't fault Toyota too much, for not having a BEV yet. R & D can be expensive and there has to be a way to pay for it. Plus I think Prime is a good way for them to gauge the current economics involved with releasing and servicing a BEV. Toyota will get a BEV out in the wild soon enough for me, I just hope I can afford it when they do.
    I wanted the model 3, the wife wanted the Prime.

    1984 ... but asking Porsche freaks about their greatest love is like an invitation to ask about a parent's first child - instantly they whip out the pictures. They'll show you the most gorgeous thing they've ever seen ... so there's my baby - blonde leather / custom chrome mags (don't know why Porsche didn't do this from the factory) & black mirror finish, where you could put a microfiber towel on the hood & it would slowly slide off;

    Yea! - so beautiful ... oh - & my wife is too ... & daughter (covering bases)

    Then you get married, and your better ½ wants no competition for your every dollar & moment, & they say it's one or the other (sigh - wink)
    you know, technically he still is a moderator here. He & i discussed our buggy dual/channel dash cams that we both bought for our Tesla's not too long ago - on the other form. But yeah, he - like many Prius owners love the efficiency & Tech of the most efficient & techie cars ... so ..... we follow that path.
    And yes, loving Toyota reliability, many of us in the US look forward to the day that we can get a BEV from Toyota. The Prius, being the first mass-market hybrid, got so much business due to the fact that they led the field. One wonders if that same dynamic would have been the same if they would have used that same philosophy with a BEV - get the 1st mas marketed ev out. And yes Toyota did invest - & probably saved the arse of Tesla when they were most strapped for cash. Iirc Toyota made a boatload when they sold their Tesla stock.

    why do we always argue about who can drive a bev, when those people don't care to drive one.

    more constructive may be finding ways to market them.

    in due time . . . . like when the quickly drying up fracked well growth comes screeching to a halt - and the short lived existing wells begin to sputter. But in the mean time - tesla nearly made ¼million cars in 2018 with other manufacturers picking up the pace ... so with less gas burning due to that dynamic, hopefully the coming shock wave won't upset too many apple carts.

    I don't think anyone would be upset about anyone saying a BEV isn't for them.
    It is typically when someone says that because a BEV won't work for them, they obviously won't work for the majority of the market, that people get argumentative.

    Just like in the early hybrid days, the arguments start when the topic turns judgemental. Not everyone wants the same thing for the same reason. We're on our second Prius now and our first RAV4 HV, but just added a ZR1 to the herd. There are some that will argue we "should have" bought a full blown Tesla instead...but that's not what we wanted.

    Actually, I don't think there are. At least, a very very very small minority.
    Now, when you indicate BEVs won't meet your "mission critical needs", then you invite discussion.

    I for one, have a tough time imagining what "mission critical needs" could not be met by a BEV. Not saying you are incorrect for your individual case, just that I would guess a BEV would be as good as an ICE to meet 'most' peoples "mission critical" events.

    Rather than defining what you meant by "mission critical" you made a sarcastic remark which rubbed some the wrong way.

    I GET that a BEV doesn't work for you. I just don't want other readers thinking that must mean it wouldn't work for them.
    Just as I didn't want people thinking a hybrid wouldn't work for them because of a specific use case someone gave as a reason it wouldn't work for them (although most of those reasons were out and out wrong for all use cases).

    in either case, the arguments are repeated over and over, and to what end? the motoring public will decide for themselves, and don't read priuschat anyway.

    There may be more to it than that. I'm sure many people have seen or heard of the South Park episode dealing with the Prius type "smug alerts" ... actually the Prius, in the show was appropriately called the pious.

    There was a time when many had a certain degree of pride thinking how much non-renewable & money & labor/cost-savings, they'd achieved .... then along comes something way more efficient. That might create misplaced guilt/frustration, causing some hybrid owners to react oppositionally. Just a thought. But whether a HEV or BEV, the harder the 'fans' push - against them self or the public at large, the more disgusted the oppositions get. That's what made the South Park episode funny.

    Having "excessive pride" of one's choice of vehicle/s is acceptable...until you condemn others for driving something else...regardless the reason or vehicle/s. That's when "smug" becomes derogatory, oppositional and defeats all good intention. ;)
