We get 51.5 mpg for our first tank of gas. Since then, we get right about 52 mpgs. we usually fill up at 1 pip and put in 9.2 gallons which gets us about 470-480 a tank.
The odometer shows 2391 miles now and as the car breaks in more we are hoping to get up to 55 mpg and finally get over 500 miles to the tank.

How do you put 12.4 gallons in a 11.9 gal tank? For the first time on my last tank I drove it to 1 flashing pip (I was very close to gas stations) and could only put in 30.047 litres (7.95 gallons). Distance driven on it was 540 miles with 64.9 MPG.
You must be able to stretch and hold more in your bladder;)

I'm trying to figure that out as well. I talked to FireEngineer Saturday night at the WFEC at my house and, if I remember right, he said there are reports of getting more than 12.5 gallons in.:)

    Well ... don't I feel like a looser now?

I typically get down to one or two pips and go between 550 and 700 miles on that. My last tank was ~660 miles @ 64.4 mpg (17 days between fill ups).

If you thought DiamondLarry took the wind out of your sail, then I'm just the guy to ease your pain.

I was about to rent a marquee to tell the whole world I got my first 600+ mile tank. I guess I can't even start a new thread on that one!

Still: 601 miles at 60.5 MPG. It was nearly all highway driving, though much of it in hilly terrain. I did all of it in about 30 hours, so it was not a stop-and-go world or in-town commuting. This was driving from IL to MN and returning.

Anyway, I'm thrilled. I have no idea how I could improve on those numbers for the type of driving I was doing. Once you get up to 65mph you absolutely kill your chances to keep above 60MPG. I can see the 60 equals 60 working (at times), but I can't see how to get 60MPG at 70MPH.

I just filled up with one pip (not blinking) left on the gauge. The pump clicked off at 9.324 gallons. The MFD read 463 miles and 49.2 MPG. The price was $4.009 for regular here in Iowa. Looks like I could have gone well over 500 miles on this tank. Heading to Wisconsin tomorrow so will see if I can get over 50 MPG on this road trip and get that last pip to blink.

I've just filled up the third tank since owning Velma. It's the first time I've taken her from full down to the last bar on the gauge. My CanView V3+ was reading fuel % of around 12% full when I pulled into the gas station. It was 110% full when I pulled out.

Total mileage on this tank was 551.4 miles. I put a little over 11.2 gallons (US) in.

The worst bit is the cost. £49.15! Or, at the current exchange rate, $98!

I've got 791 miles on our 2008 P#1 and just got down to two pips on our second tank of gas. This morning I drove out to the Yolo Causeway, a flat 3 mile stretch of three-lane freeway, to run speed versus mpg tests. The results are in. At 55 I got 60.6 mpg, at 60 it was 55.2 and at 65 it was 48.2. Each speed was averaged over two runs, one in each direction. I apologize to those drivers who wondered if they had to give me a push during the 55 mph tests.

The others have stated the same but here are some key tips to maximize the fuel economy.

    Stay OFF the Highway.
Stay BELOW 40 mph whenever possible ( Toyota threshhold )
When in the City avoid Stop/Go driving at all costs....keep rolling even if just crawling ahead.
Plan trips to eliminate the stops and to allow for the most right turn 'roll throughs'
    Keep the tire pressure high
    Don't carry anyone or anything.
    Don't drive in inclement weather.
    Minimize AC usage.
Try to draft safely/legally, say a car length behind at 20-25 mph.

There was a poster on GreenHybrid last year ( May ) who drove 1026 miles on 11.9 gal. DING !!!!

after driving my Prius for 520 miles, I filled up, it took 9.25 gallons, my average was 56 MPG. My second tank gave me 513 miles. I am not sure what i am doing but but i will like to get 61 MPG, like my friend at work. Lots of coasting and not wasting much gasoline. 100% is my goal.

I've been using my AC all the time lately. It is just too humid not to use AC. So far I am averaging between 52 to 55 mpg and running mostly interstate at 68 mph. At two pips, I fill up right away and put in almost 8 gallons.

I am at 435 miles right now and have two pips left. I'm planning on filling up on the way home.
