Torn - Base or Advanced?

We just bought a PIP Advanced. For us it was a quick decision as we didn't want the fabric seats. As some of the members have mentioned you don't pay that much extra anymore due to all the deals going on. We ended up paying about 4K extra for Advanced.

I think HUD is a good feature if you are using Nav. Premium sound and Entune is also good to have. We use homelink but you can also buy it as an option for Base. Overall softex seats and premium electronics feature does make your PIP little bit of a luxury vehicle.

I understand you are buying it as you had a kid on the way. I would say Softex is definitely better as Fabric is hard to clean. And everyone knows kids could be messy

Sorry I can't provide links, but I know there are studies confirming significant increases in safety resulting from these types of systems.

 

Like everything about the Advanced. HUD, JBL, LED, DRCC, and all the other initials you can think of. When I bought my 2012, Toyota was offering great cash back...so it was not toooo expensive. No regrets.

 

Yeah. If you have the extra dollars, go for it. But if not, there are still aftermarket and OEM accessories options to make your Base comfortable.

 

I get what you're saying, but that thread makes a better case for disabling distracting features while in motion than promoting a feature that makes the distractions safer. Probably my biggest concern in having features like this become common is that they become a crutch. I'm confident this is the case with back up cams. When I learned how to drive, I was taught to turn around and watch where I was going, which I still do, and I guarantee I get a better view of what's behind me. I can't say I've even looked at the backup cam display once in a month and a half of driving.

In any case, to each his own. If you have it and like it, more power to you, just please don't forget to watch the road when you're behind me.

 

Ventura Highway just a song, not HOV? Well you got me there, but since PiP (or PIPA) resale value potentially enhanced via green sticker thru 2019, that is one reason to get the stickers, and maybe OP has future need.

 

The car also reports it state....you can turn on the A/C from your smartphone app, check the state of the battery and it also gives you on online record of fuel consumption. I do like the safety connect feature, however (and yes, I have AAA as well but I see them as very different services). When I pressed the safety connect button to test it, a voice come on the speaker of the car and said, Hello, Mr. Blank, is everything OK or do you need assistance? I liked that a lot. After I told them that I was just testing to make sure it worked, they told me exactly where I was and that if the button gets pressed and there is no response, the call 911...if the airbags deploy, they call 911...and a whole bunch of other things in the car that automatically initiates the call in the event that you cannot.

I use the HUD all the time. It really helps me keep a soft foot on the accelerator to maximize my mileage. About the only feature that I haven't used much are the fog lights...now if I lived in the central valley of California....

 

If you frequently travel alone and off the beaten path, consider getting a proper spare tire.

If I had wanted to suggest a Concealed Carry Permit, I would have done so as in fact I have in the past.
I'm thinking that since a pip is mostly urban/suburban transport sold in densely populated states I'll probably just stick with what I wrote instead.

I think it is still important to turn around and look behind you. But the backup camera will show you things you cannot see from the drivers seat. Children have died while doing things like hiding behind cars, including DW's younger brother decades ago. Seems sort of silly to not use BOTH methods when it only takes about 1 sec extra. And the backup cameras helps when parking so you can get really close without hitting the car behind.

This is a valid point. I think I'll make a real effort to remember to at least glance at the backup camera from now on.... Probably the biggest challenge for me is that I'm already looking backward to evaluate the situation when I put the car in reverse, so I'll have to turn back to see the display, but clearly worth the effort.

 

It will do 10 miles on pure electric quite nicely, maybe leave a better world for your firstborn. Do you have a place to plug it in? (the car, not the newborn)

The HUD is pretty much a nothing feature. I leave it off.

 

We have a Sienna with leather seats, 8 years later, 2 kids now at 7 & 5 years old. All I can tell you that its a good thing that we got the leather seats, as the past 7 years, the kids spilled milk, juice, food, marked the seats with crayons, markers, etc, or a leaking diaper.. And it was an easy clean up. I couldn't imagine dried up milk, or pee odor in a cloth seats.

Either way, the kids will DESTROY the interior of the car.

It was one of the reasons that we got the PiP Advance, hope these Softex seats can withstand the kids.. and of course TMC was offereing 0% APR.

I just got the PiP Standard and coming from the 2008 Prius II, I feel the standard is luxury enough for me. I don't care much for leatherette, and the cloth seats are better quality than Gen II Prius. The chrome touch door handles, upgraded rims, nav/backup cam, heated seats, Halogen headlights - already give the PiP standard a premium feel IMO. I wouldn't mind a head's up display though!
