It's not a new entry - last I checked I was 3rd place. And no I didn't hit anything - this is my first tank and the dealer filled up. Problem was all their test drives were on gas so car had 20 miles and 1 gallon on the read when I started... Must've been a complete fill up though as you can see my read says 10 gallons - I see now my pic didn't show it but I have 2 gas bars left and read says 70 miles to go Edit - I may have misunderstood - this is my newest pic : 4010 miles 441 gas 89% EV
It displays 10 gallons and it may be exactly 10.0 gallons. We are adding 0.5 to it because PiP will still display 10 even if you used 10.9 gallons. 70 miles to empty also take account of your EV miles. Say, 12 EV miles left and perhaps the car still has a little over a gallon left. I know the official capacity is 10.6 gallons.
I get that - and agree on the 70 miles to empty. I've got 70 miles to empty in total = 58 gas miles, still greater than one gallon 2 gas bars should confirm that... I also understand my case is different given its my first tank and I was starting "behind" due to the dealer miles included. I'll do better next tank ! btw has anyone beat 4,000 miles on a tank ? I know another Boston area driver was recently over 3,000
No one I know, and it will not be me. I don't drive alot and I have a road trip at the end of August so that will be the end of my tank. Then fall and winter will be here and we will see shorter EV miles available and heat will be needed, so engine will run more.
Thanks, Just an update just turned 1900 miles today still at 999mpg 95% EV. No trips planned until the end of August so I will keep rolling along till then. At that time I will update.
Keep an eye on your current numbers. Maybe your current ratio screen might even beat what you already have up there.
I was going to tell you to suck it up and skip the heat but then I saw you're from Wisconsin. Knew a marathoner from GreenBay who did 20 mile runs on her treadmill when it dropped to 10 below My tank will be done in no more than 3 weeks because my 5 mo check-up is scheduled - so 4500 max
I've run 20 of them, now I just coach good catch on the name - most including running buddies didn't get it
ok, inspired my Retired4999's crazy numbers I did a reset this week to see how close I could get and the problems with the formula are even better illustrated : I'll post a pic if anyone wants to see it but here are the numbers - I'm driving along at 100% EV - 61 total miles - 0 gas miles - 11kwk = 158.8 MPGe Next mile the dreaded ICE kicks in - when this occurred to me and it stopped I pulled over and took a pic... Now I'm at 98% EV - 62 total miles - 1 gas mile - 11kwk and the formula (adding in that 1/2 gallon) now says I've only gotten 70 MPGe !!! Dropped 88 MPGe in a couple miles ? I don't think so You could say due to the rules of the formula I should've added the 1/2 gallon at the start - even though 0 gas had been used but that's even more ridiculous. the most correct way to do this is to look at gas used - 26 miles used = 1/2 gallon. 1 mile used = 1/52nd Otherwise the only time the formula works is when you truly are close to that 1/2 gallon mark
Yes it's going to throw it way off when you are driving so few of miles in your equation. That is why our minimum is 1000 miles. It throws it off much less. While your idea is decent it doesn't take into account that some people may be getting 30 mpg in HV while others may be getting 80 mpg in HV.
Yup, which is why min of 1,000 miles is needed for the entry. If you can show the actual gallon from refilling the tank at the pump, we should use it. The formula is good enough for general purpose 1,000 mile tank. As the competition heats up, we may want to measure our own charging loss and actual gallon.
The former makes sense - I just posted this because it was so easy to see the shortcomings. I don't really agree with the latter though - unless you're a Consumer Reports driver ;-) I'd say a mean of 48 is a really close assumption. I'll bet 90% get 40-60mpg and using such will be a lot more accurate than always assuming .5 here's that pic if anyone cares : http://i1329.photobucket.com/albums/w545/golfx15/photo_zpsb7a122cc.jpg
actually had another idea after posting that pic of the reading markabele mentioned the variable of 30-80mpg in HV but you can get pretty close by looking at the pics - it says "fuel saved by charge" of 9/10 gallon So 62 miles - 9/10 gallon... not sure if Toyota is doing what I'm assuming there but it seems pretty close
I know what you mean, notice my HV miles! and only used 1 gal. Yeah right! I am not a math genius, but? I would bet when I hit 100 miles HV it will say 2 gal's used!
Unfortunately there is no way around this folks. Even requiring a receipt would make it so it has to be all on one tank which might not be practical for some people. I realize it's not perfect. But it's the best we can do.
