To download Entune or not, THAT is the question.

Maybe think of Entune in the same way as "HVAC". All vehicles sold by Toyota have Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning" systems. Some Toyotas have very basic manually controlled HVAC systems. Some like our Prius v have automatic 1-zone HVAC. Some have automatic 2-zone HVAC with separate settings for each front passenger. Our Toyota Sienna has an automatic 3-zone HVAC with separate settings for each zone. IIRC, the most expensive "Toyota" (a Lexus) has a 4-zone system. All of these systems are referred to as HVAC systems even through they have different capabilities.

There are multiple types and grades of Entune ... basic versions that can be updated only through USB and which will never receive additional features and more sophisticated versions that can be updated "over the air". There are newer or higher grade versions of Entune with features (e.g. Facebook, Yelp) like Lexus Enform has.

Toyota is continuing to introduce new features to Entune. Older versions of Entune may not be compatible with these new features due to limitations such as system memory and changes in system architecture. It's like when software and hardware are not compatible with newer Microsoft operating system versions.

Entune has been offered with and without Safety Connect - usually without Safety Connect except on the more/most expensive models and trim levels. I think it is great that the Plug-in Advance came with three years of Safety Connect since our Toyotas each came with only one year. Discounts are available when Safety Connect is renewed for more than one year at a time.

It seems easy enough to understand why only the RAV4 EV and the Prius Plug-in come with charging station locators.

I find entune a gimmick definitely not worth it for us to pay for this service.

I don't understand. Would you please explain? There is no fee to use most of Entune other than data charges on a Smartphone. The data charges are similar or lower than if the same actions were done directly on a Smartphone, e.g. Pandora, Slacker, iHeart, search. If you don't use a particular Entune feature then there are no data charges for that features.

I'll take it back. I thought one had to pay to use the functionality of entune - the Toyota app that works in conjunction with the head unit in the vehicle.

On the Prius Plug-in Advanced, the following items have an additional fee after the first three years. It will be interesting to see if Toyota continues to charge for these on the Prius Prime.

Similar thing with the FCA equipped Uconnect head units. I wonder if they are all run by the same company.

Quick question, how does the battery charging remote app work? Can I be in my apartment on the 14th floor and still see what my charging status is on my smartphone?

You need entune for the WX app on the Prius when HD is not available.

So after the last entune update it keeps asking me to sign in. Obviously I want it hot 24/7 for WX. Anyone else noticed this?

OK, one of the problems was I was typing in the wrong PW as it was connected for a year so I forgot it.

    Will see if that helps.

I'm new here and bumping this thread because I'm wondering if I'm missing out on anything in Entune. People who use Entune: what features do you like?

I've downloaded the app, looked at it on iPhone and in the car, cleaned out some apps I'm not interested in (I'm kind of a minimalist).

I mostly listen to podcasts driving to/from work. If I'm tired, then I play music. I seem to like music or radio for shorter trips. I have a Pandora subscription. I run Waze on the phone to keep an eye on traffic.

I try to avoid anything to do with texting (including notifications) while driving. I rarely receive or make calls.

    I am interested in learning:
-Are there easier ways to switch between podcasts/music if I change my mind while on the road. Can I use the car voice command button to open apps? With my above preferences, am I right that I'd be switching in/out of Entune?
-How do the car/phone decide what to play. When I get in the car the phone connects and it picks what it wants to play. I'm guessing it has some rules based on what apps are open, what was played last, etc. but it seems inconsistent.

    Thanks!
    (P.S. 2017 Prius V five has advanced technology package/JBL)

Welcome to Prius Chat, but sorry I don't have Entune in my car. You'll have to wait for someone else to answer your questions. Won't be long.

Our 2012 Prius v Five with ATP/JBL is mainly driven by my wife - by me when I fuel and wash it. My wife doesn't care about Entune and listens to NPR on FM most of the time. When I drive her car, I mainly listen to Pandora to which I subscribe which is a little odd since I rarely listen to Pandora when I drive "my" Toyota (2014 Sienna Limited) since in that I mainly listen to XM satellite radio. (We dropped XM in the Prius since my wife doesn't want it.)

I've tried iHeart Radio and Slacker in her Prius v but didn't care for them. IMO, the hidden gem in Entune is the Destination Search feature. Destination Search can find POI's too new to be in the navigation POI database.

If you are streaming podcasts, you might want to put your phone in a holder high on the dashboard so that you don't have to divert your eyes from the road when selecting them from your phone. Just select the "BT" tab on the audio screen to stream directly from your phone.

Your JBL head unit should be able to read incoming text messages and emails to you although, unless it has changed, the iPhone doesn't let you reply to them with "canned" replies. I can reply to incoming messages with canned replies in our Prius v due to my using an Android phone.

Entune generally wants to connect to and play what was played last in our Prius v. If I'm listening to Pandora, for example, I press the pause icon on the in-dash screen before exiting the car and it picks up where I left off (including in the middle of a song) when I reenter the car and start it up.

I think it just takes some experimentation to get comfortable with how it works.

2020 PRIUS Prime. I’ve successfully paired my iPhone. I’ve been using Apple Car Play but thought I’d try the Entune features. I got iHeart radio working and NPR - but only briefly for one or two outings. Now the car keeps popping up a screen telling me entune didn’t download properly and to reinitiate a download. Trouble is I’ve been through the menus but cannot figure out how to force a reinitialization. My entire console is unusable because within a minute of acknowledging the pop up - it comes right back. If this keeps up I’d also like to know how to disable entune entirely. Thanks.
