Exactly! Which brings me to the question - Is there any car out there that is comparable to the Prius in terms of how much advanced Technology you're actually getting? ... is there a more technologically advanced car out there? eg: maybe the top-of-the-range Touring version of the 2017 CR-V comes close?

Good question! Teslas certainly would exceed the Prime Advanced tech level, but other than that I don't know what else would. I recently drove in a 2016 Lexus and a top of the line 2017 Accord and neither had nearly as many cool tech features as the advanced.

Not to derail this thread but most German luxury cars also have much much more tech.

Not convinced... I think it's on par with what we have in the Prime Advanced, no?

True but I think the self driving capabilities are better and potentially the steering assistance too

YEP! but even Honda beats the Toyota when it comes to LKAS vs the poor "Steer Assist" ... as far as self-parking, not sure how that is in the Prime, I haven't used... but apparently, it can park itself "parallel parking" and "back into an open space"... how good that is, did anyone try that properly?

    Well... darn!

When you folks on the East Coast had a $2,500 customer cash I was envious... now with $3,500 I am just "pissed!"

The Toyota dealers I have purchased from in the past here in Las Vegas and Salt Lake City cannot even get the Prime... my SLC dealer has only had ONE car to sell this entire year and he checked yesterday when I called him... the entire Region he is in has only received FOUR total of the Primes.... What the heck is going on!?!

I guess I am only left with making the trek to the NE to find one.... anyone willing to help me with which of the NE dealers are most accommodating for out-of-area sales?

It does not matter where I have to go to purchase the car... I will either drive it off or have it shipped to SLC.

    Thank you..........(grrrrrrr.... frustration....)

As August turns into September, there should be betterr & better deals on the 2017 stock, as 2018 will be imminent.

I just received internet quote from Central Maine Toyota of Waterville, Maine.
    Prime Plus in Blizzard Pearl
    Base $27100
    Delivery $885
    Special Color $395
All weather Floor liner/cargo tray $248
    Total MSRP: $28628

    Toyota Rebate ends 7/31 -$3125
    Dealer discount -$1708
    No Doc fee
Total sales price before tax & title registration: $23795

With $4500 tax credit, the final price is less than what I paid for 2015 Prius Two 2 years ago. I am going to test drive Prime this weekend. If I like the car, and if they give me KBB trade-in value for my 2015 Prius Two, I may pull the trigger. Or if something does not click, I may wait and see what happens in Aug and Sep. I am quite happy with current Prius Two.

It's all about CARB & ZEV environmental politics. Overly-simplified bottom line: In order for high volume manufacturers like Toyota to sell gas hogs in 9 "California Spec" states, they must sell varying and increasing quotas of Eco-friendly cars like Primes, etc. That's why the focus on East & West Coast Prime sales, where these states are concentrated. The states whose governments don't try to fall in line with California's stricter smog rules won't get these great cars first. If you want these superior and clean cars, tell your state government!! Eventually, a majority of European and Asian manufacturers will favor electric and hybrid vehicles, so everyone will be able to benefit. Check out recent announcements by Volvo, Hyundai, Toyota, VW, Renault, etc. Plus, European governments like England are BANNING pure Internal Combustion Engines in the next few years!! Who would have thought it possible !! Just read that Toyota and others will be releasing Solid State Battery technology for EV's in the next 4 years!! These have much greater range, quicker charging and are safer than Lithium Ion batteries. To be continued!!

What does Tesla have besides limited range, much higher price tag, slower "refueling", and smaller number of dealers/support sites than a 2017 Prime Advanced!!??
Tesla accelerates much faster, but for a price, SWGAF!! It still takes too long to "fuel" up the Tesla and we still have way too many power outages; whatta you do then with your $40,000-$120,000 Brick!!?? I think "Mixed ICE" is going to be with us for a while.

Boy, talk about twisted freaking psychology!!! The people who drive 4k per year already own lumber wagons for the most part and don't need to replace their sleds. If I drove that much, I'd get a scooter!! The article author doesn't factor in the CAFE average reductions, as well as gasoline prices soon to rise, plus higher maintenance costs of ICE only hogs, which though they might be parked most of the time, still deteriorate with time. My experience shows that regularly-used machinery lasts longer than machinery that sits idle. I drive 25-35K/year, which isn't much more than my neighbors; however, now my driving is 80% electric, thereby somewhat reducing my impact on the environment. At least California is on the right track when they're increasing amount of electricity generated by renewables every year.

Scooter, I thought about that, but then I live in NE. It would be hard pressed to drive a scooter in 2 feet of snow. Although, Prius is not much better for that purpose. My daily commute is about 40 miles, and we put 15K/year on my Prius now, so that would exclude me from being a candidate for treehugger gas guzzler.;)

Received a few more internet quotes from dealers in Boston.

Bernardi Toyota Premium trim MSRP $30053 sales price $24063
Boch Toyota Premium trim MSRP $29909 sales price $23951
Toyota of Watertown Plus trim MSRP $28818 sales price $24514

Seems like Premium trim has deeper discount. I maybe driving down to Boston this weekend.

I did see in South Carolina a Prius Prime Advanced in the blue magnetic color and they have it listed at $36,990 and its the only one in the state it is preowned and has 550miles or so. I'm thinking about viewing it satuday.
