Isn't the federal tax credit on the Prime $2504, based on the battery capacity?

 

It's $4502, and yes it's based on the battery capacity.

And to the poster who did not itemize deductions, no that is not a problem with claiming the federal credit. The credits are in a different category than deductions. The only gotcha is that you can claim a credit only up to your total taxes due for the year.

 

Thanks to you guys, I saw the $2500 April Toyota cashback incentive for MA. Toyota had a $1500 CB in March and I was going to pull the trigger. After letting that pass, this is even better.

I just negotiated $23xxx selling price, $25800 OTD for the Plus, including weather mats, wheel locks and door edge-guards as well as a spare tire which I plan to just carry in the trunk. Comes w double powertrain warranty.

Dealer has to get the car from another location, and it'll be the exact color I wanted - Titanium Glow & Moonstone. Crossing fingers nothing goes wrong in the next couple days.

Mine was $28.5K but I wasn't looking for wheel locks and the spare tire is a nice touch. But I bought mine in December 2016 and just passed 4,000 miles. In another six weeks, we'll pass through 6,000 miles, possibly more.

In engineering, we get to pick two from: Good; Fast; Cheap. We got Good and Fast.

agree with you on toyota dealers, and most others. but isn't this because honda dealers won't negotiate price?

 

I don't remember that well; but seems like my 2005 Honda Insight (2-door) hybrid was discounted a little bit. My previous "Honda" a 2001 Acura Integra Type R was full sticker, and I'm sure is now becoming a collector car. I had to wait a couple of months for it and it was one of the last available. It ate Mustangs, and Z-28s for breakfast, and kept up with Porsches and Corvettes! Only problem with that car is that crooks kept trying to steal it or parts from it! Five or six times! Great little racecar.

I got slightly lower price by $185 at Prime Toyota in Lancaster MA. Initially I was going to buy there but decided to call Bernadi in Framingham which I had gone to for the test drive and got to know the salesperson and asked them to match. Bernadi was $2k higher on the initial quote but willing to come close to Prime's price. I'm ok with the extra $185 because Bernadi doubles the powertrain warranty and gave me the spare. Also I live much closer to Bernadi.

Bob- I didn't care about the wheellock and edgeguard, but they came with the car from the factory already installed. I don't think they would've credited me much if I said remove these options. I actually wanted the all weather mats/cargo tray anyway.

I think it was an unexpectedly painless process, just a morning of phone calls. I now have all the paperwork, made $500 deposit via cc, and last step will be this Thur to pickup the car

 

Some great deals out there outside of CA!! Anyone whose looking in socal, please msg me. The dealership I went to is selling under msrp.

Yes, the cars aside, that's one thing I will miss, are the great Honda dealers.

By the way, to keep this on the price-related topic, I just went through my glovebox and found a sticker that the dealership must have had on the car before, but took down and shoved in the glovebox before I arrived: one that mentioned the $500 "sticky tape" extra -- as well as $1,995 "Dealer Markup" and some other stuff -- making the price almost $3000 above original MSRP as delivered, to anyone just walking onto the lot looking around. Wow. But I had the internet quote so they must have taken it off and shoved it in the glovebox, and I just found it.

Again shoppers (esp those in SoCal, where the price is $$) -- there are TONS of dealers here. Shop around and WALK OUT even at a close-to-final stage of negotiations, when the dealers pulls his usual tricks. I said it before, and I'll say it again -- the car is NOT rare at all, and there are probably 50+ dealers within a 3 hour drive from where you live if you live in SoCal. After buying my car, I got more notices from Edmunds -- this time from some AutoNation outlets finally selling below MSRP, pretty much matching what N Hollywood Toyota gave me (at the time, they were MSRP only through Edmunds). So it's WORTH NOT RUSHING. Take your time for the better deal.

As far as service, thanks for the tips on places to try. I will try one other nearby and see if they're any better.

 

So what was the quote from Prime Toyota? I've been working the dealerships in this area and so far have gotten quotes in hand on the Premium but want to consider Plus as well. I'm mainly working with Prime because they have a used car we are eying to buy at the same time (decided to replace the 2010 Prius with a new Prime (we got Solar PV last Fall) and going with an outback that has a little more mileage on it instead of a more expensive, lower mileage second car.

Right now I've got $25444 from Prime Toyota in Lancaster, MA after the 2500..that's for a gray Premium with MSRP of 30,313. Lowest quote I have for a Premium is 25,138 from Atlantic Toyota after 2500 rebate, off 29,913 MSRP and on a Plus I've got a quote for 23,973 off 28,753 MSRP (after rebate, with dealer fees) from Ira Toyota in Danvers.

Still leaning toward Prime Toyota since they seem willing to negotiate on the Outback they're bringing down from their NH Subie dealership, if we buy two cars from them.

Now I need to decide if I just trade in the 2010 or sell it myself.

I am in San Diego but no dealers here have a Prius Prime, some say they have one (really?) and won't even give me a price.
Found a dealer in L.A. and had them reserve a Prime Premium Blizzard Pearl $28.7K
price is below MSRP so I think its about as good as it gets here. The car just came in and going to pick it up this weekend.

 

Can you let me know if the 23,973 off 28,753 MSRP for the Plus includes sales tax?? I am getting a similar quote but excluding sales tax.

On the Premium with MSRP of $30,318* (typo in my original post), it just lists under O "Protection Package ($409) - Door Edge Guards, Rear Bumper Applique, Body Side Moldings" ... But it doesn't quite add up. The Premium MSRP is $28,800 + $885 DPH + $409 Protection Package is $30,094. I looked at the Accessories page and it looks like the Carpet Mat Package is $224, which is exactly difference, so maybe it includes that? I'd much rather have the All Weather liners though.

I'm a little worried my wife isn't going to like the "leatherette" seats - she doesn't like leather seats, and she will be driving this car a lot more than I will since it will be her commuter vehicle. I know it's not real leather, but I think it's mostly about how hot they get in the summer and cold in the winter. Is the SofTex stuff any better on that than real leather?

 

The Softex is nice so far; it's been high 80's here in Anaheim and I've had the car parked in the sun without any complaint, and the look and feel of the stuff is very nice, soft, and classy looking. I almost forgot: I did add a medium dark metallic tint to car which always helps keep the car comfortable in Socal summers.
