It's a relational (SQL) data base thing. Your userid is linked to every post you've ever made and to all posts by others that replied to a post of yours, ad nauseum. If a site admin were to delete your userid, every link to all those posts as well as the posts themselves would also have to be deleted to maintain relational integrity. Potentially thousands of posts would be lost and the possibility arise of having orphaned records that could not be accessed.

Bisco, our PriusChat Prime contributor - hang in there as you experience PCWS (PriusChat Withdrawal Syndrome). With the website going batty so much over the last few days and offline for half the day recently, we feel your pain and we'll get through this.:D

Thanks again, Don. I guess websites vary in how they operate. I was on a couple of investing discussion websites, and you could delete your account and delete your userid... and all the posts remained, and all forum integrity was maintained. (I'm no longer a member, but I can go there and still see posts of mine from 15 yrs ago.)

Apparently, PriusChat doesn't use that type of software. That's ok. It's a good forum.

Taking a quick look at the XenForo manual, deletion of accounts seems to not usually be a thing supported by it. There do appear to be third-party mods available for account deletion, but they appear to be aimed at accounts with zero posts (and therefore minimal impact on the database if they're deleted).

There are other forum programs that do support account deletion, and their method tends to be to handle posts by a formerly registered user as being made by an unregistered guest user with their former username.

A wise man once said "If you want the hole you are in not to be deeper, you have to stop digging"

Same goes for posting. Once it is posted, it is done. Sure you can go back and edit for a little while. But sooner or later it is a permanent thing. Sort of like words that are spoken. Once said, they cannot be taken back.

I also agree about any credit card issue. Call your bank and tell them you suspect or are concerned about fraud. Request new cards be issued. It is really that simple.

Oh and the note about the premium site has been there for a long time. Actually it was there before you @Coast Cruiser signed up.

Just logged in to see if things have improved at.

Once again, I was able to quickly and easily log-in with FireFox, which I have not been able to do for months.

Typing is going fine. But, I will now post and "see" what happens. If all goes well, hmm...

All went well, and this edit seems to be going smoothly, too.

Sounds to me like the powers to be are working on the site again.

I would suspect @Danny to be the one behind the scene responsible for the changes. It is my understanding that he is the only one that has access to the source code of the site.

Gosh, I forgot my user name this morning....must be because the last time I signed in here it was such a horrible experience with numerous web glitches that my self-defense mechanisms were trying to prevent me from returning.

I literally had to sift through the forum and find one of my old posts to find my user name.

Probably trying psycho tricks, figuring if visitors are given a place to whine, they are less likely to go psycho...

Regardless of the site shutdowns over the last few days, the difficulty in posting continues, at least for me.

CleanMPG adopted the same site software a few months back; it seems "stock" and runs just fine. Another factor, to be fair: they seem to have a lot fewer visits.

Just a layman' hunch: this site's issues are due to extensive customization and unforeseen consequences?

this software worked well for quite along time. it's only recently (months?) that it has had problems. i don't see a traffic increase, who knows?

Logically, there has to be a steep traffic increase with all the new models being served here, as well as the Gen I and Gen II models starting to fail.

I lurked here long, long before I ever posted.

Back several years ago, all you had was the Gen I and Gen II boards and a few auxiliary boards and the long-gone actual home page, which had some sort of Prius News on it.

Now there are Gen III, Gen IV V, etc.

Also, lately, I have noticed lots and lots of new posters who appear out of nowhere, post one loud plea for help for a problem that has been dealt with many times on the board and then disappear, never to be heard from again.

So, that may have something to with it. Don't know, I am no Prius expert, and most assuredly, no computer pro.

And, I hate to say it. posting and editing and logging in is working fine at the moment -- for me
