We named our Preston because we were so "impressed" with it! Preston the Prius just fits him well.:p

Cars have been named since I was married or with my wife - before that not really (I guess it's her thing).

My 1993 Ford Probe - "Proby" (Wth?)
My 1999 Ford Contour SVT - "Vroom Vroom" (from the exhaust note)
Her Mid 90's era Suzuki Sidekick - "Pooh"
Her Late 90's Chevrolet Cavalier - "Eeyore"
Her 2002 Hyundai Elantra GT - "Disney"
Our 2002 Toyota Prius - "Sparky"
Our 2004 Toyota Prius - "Clover" (for the color)
Our 2010 Toyota Prius - "White 'n Nerdy" (Weird Al parody of Ridin' Dirty)

A while ago I asked the same question: name of your prius and gender?

PHriuS is definitely male, but I don't know why. The name is a pun, as in Free Us (from the tyranny of gas), another pun involving my initials, and of course a third play on the car's model, Prius.

"White Lightning." No, my Prius is not white - it's named for the lightning graphic on the rear fender at the end of the pinstripe. It's also a reference to my mom's dad, Pappy, who was a Gen-U-Wine moonshiner and shine runner between Missouri and Oklahoma just after prohibition (which lasted longer in Oklahoma due to state laws). Mom made home-brewed beer when I was growing up - another part of that rich moonshine heratige I'm so prowd of.

As one who still appreciates that show (the first five seasons anyway), I appreciate the reference! Good name . . . Good name.

COMPLETELY understood . . . When I get mine, I'll need at least a week of amnesty from my comments due to my anticipated jovial mood!
Also, I hope you are enjoying your new vehicle . . . remember, many of us are living vicariously through your experience for about the next month, so keep that info flowing!

OK. Your heritage makes you officially the coolest person on this forum!
It got me thinking: If the Prius had come into use amongst shine runners about 60 years or so ago, can you imagine how it would have changed the face of NASCAR as we know it today? It certainly would be a much kinder, gentler and quieter pastime!! Also, instead of the Dodge Charger, the Prius would have been the car star for the Dukes of Hazzard! Alright, that was fun. :focus:
YOu just got me to thinking . . . a dangerous thing for me sometimes!

You should continue that heritage and fill her up with Good Old Fashioned home grown E85 ethanol! Although I believe (not sure) that the Prius would need a conversion though.

It may yet come to that. A Prius ran at the Salt Flats a few years ago at, if I recall, about 136 (and that was with little modification and stock gearing). A Prius would be better in road racing, since that is on and off the throttle allowing for regenerative braking more than circle track. I've often thought about autocrossing a Prius - lots of good low-end torque, which is key in Solo II.

The Gen II isn't set up for E85. I'm not a fan - yes it's renewable, but to change the US economy over to E85 for fuel would take up all the farmland we have. What would we eat?

My car is named Lightning Green McQueen Junior after my 2007 Prius. Lightning Green McQueen Senior was named becuase his smile resembles Lightning McQueen from Pixar's CARS movie and the Avatar of "The Force". Both care are environmenatlly Green, but only Lighning Green McQueen Senior was painted Green in color i.e. Silver Pine Mica.

My 8 year-old son calls our '09 Prius "The Starship" and has informed us that he wants us to get vanity plates reading "NX-01" asap. When voyaging, we have personas he has given us; I'm "Captain Quirk", he's "Mr. Sqwak" and the spousal-unit has become "Lt. O'Hai-ya"!
I guess Trekkerism is genetic, eh.
