You mean contrary, as in performing Transaxle Oil Changes? Toyota doesn't recommend doing that, correct?

Who really thinks the House Brand that gets used across the Toyota fleet is anything special.
High Quality Synthetic ATF's from specialty lubricant makers may be special...

 

From new I changed out the trans fluid at 10000 miles then again at 40000 miles and it was pretty clean then again at 80000 miles and it was spotless all with D6. I did the uoa’s at the 40000 mark. I have not changed it since the 80k and may not ever again,

Which brings me to a conclusion on the G2 is that it really only needed the initial break in stuff removed at the 10k mark and your done. Great trans.

 

I have to say I'm in complete agreement with the point Mendel was making in #64. A lot of us have opinions here, and a lot of us offer them, and sometimes they're different from Toyota's, and it's never out of place to say so when that's the case.

It's easy: "Toyota recommends such-and-such, I've had good results doing so-and-so, which I recommend because blah."

New readers come along to the thread, as they do all the time, they see your post, they learn what Toyota recommends, they learn your opinion and your reasoning, and they makes their choices.

 

Long time “test” finished. Filled 2003 transaxle with Redline D6 and didn't change it for 330,000 hard driving KM. Was interested in the low temp viscosity, being in Canada. MG2 bit the dust in the end, but the transmission is still doing great. I’ll post pics of the oil and send a sample for analysis.

I also put low viscosity Redline oil in my 2000 Honda Insight manual trans that was grinding when downshifting and it cured it immediately.

I’m literally leaving right now to get more D6 to put in my “new” low mile 2001 (158,000) in which I just did a MG2 swap.

 

Lots of talk about servicing the most reliable, problem free, low maintenance element in Prius In our household we have a car with traditional automatic gearbox and that thing surely require constant oil changes and attention. And still, every now and then i get ”what the heck was that jerking?” situations Pretty cool to drive Prius which just work and is always super smooth.

 

Wondering what your current mileage is and if you ever changed your CVT fluid again?

I'm at ~236,000 miles and was reported when I picked up the 2006 that the transmission fluid was recently changed.

I haven't looked at the records, though did just go through my 2013's a few days back and found I haven't changed since what appears to be ~200k miles ago.

 

I would have suggested changing the WS ATF at 30000 miles, 100000 miles, and every 100000 miles after that. Toyota has no recommendation. YMMV.

 

True! It's just a box of gears and bearings that are always engaged and spinning together.
It's just a courtesy to give those parts a clean lube once in a while.
