When the gatekeeper (the company that owns several dealerships in your geographical area) is making more money on the financing than on the product, the market is corrupt in raw technical terms.

I don't use the word to mean anything shameful, it's just a technical reality.

But you can buy half price pickups and jeeps

Primes are just as bad as Maverick hybrids, some folks are going on 3 years of waiting for their truck to get a production slot,

Even just prior to the recall none of your predictions were accurate. Not even close.

Now you're saying the recall is "the final nail in the coffin for the Gen 5 ".

For me, it is. I am not going to wait for many more months and get price-gouged by Toyota and dealers.

And my original post was more than accurate and predictive. It was the worse time to buy a Prius; it still is, and it will be for quite a while in the future.

Really? Which part specifically? Looks to me like you're 0 for 4.

As for the effect of a recall, anyone who expects any car to be totally perfect is delusional. There will always be some issues, especially in the first year or two of a new generation's production. I would normally wait until the 3rd year of production or later before buying but my previous car was over 15 years old so I decided to take the risk.

So far I'm happy and I consider this recall to be a non-issue since I don't drive with my doors unlocked. And I can't imagine that they would stop production for the rest of the year, which you suggest is a possibility.

Just to put things in perspective, here's the link to the list of recalls and TSAs for your beloved Gen 4. It includes 10 Safety Recalls, 3 Service Campaigns and 39 Technical Service Bulletins.

How many of those Gen 4 recalls suspended the production indefinitely? I am guessing none?

It is not to mention that the Gen 4 production was never below demand as in Gen 5.

If you could predict things that well, why didn't you reply to my original post that there would probably be a production-suspending recall?

And that was a good thing because the Gen 4 Prius Prime PHEV turned out to be a far better-looking car than the vanilla Gen 4 Prius HEV.

Got it. Something bad for the gen5, a production delay in this case, is good for the gen4.

    Why does this sound familiar?

    ??

How is a production-suspending recall in the middle of production the same as an initial-production-start delay?

Wasn't the Gen 5 initial production start delayed for more than one year, which I didn't even think about and mention until you made this silly snap? You can argue that that initial-production delay also resulted in better styling for Gen 5 just as in for Gen 4 Prius Prime initial-production delay having resulted in better styling for the latter.

Every car made has technical issues that need to be addressed and some might require an official recall. I don't claim to be able to predict that any of them would require a suspension of production.

    Why didn't I respond earlier?

Your original post was made on April 13, 2023. I didn't even start to think about buying a new car until late July of 2023 which is when I discovered the Gen 5 Prius. I didn't even know PriusChat existed until August and I didn't join until Sept 14th, several days after I picked up the car.

Until a few days ago this thread was buried because it had been ignored since late May of 2023. Hence the belated response.

Pointing out the total inaccuracy of your original post doesn't require that anyone makes an accurate prediction of their own.

I'll make one though . . . I predict that Gokhan will continue to trash the Gen 5 on the Gen 5 forum even though he doesn't own one and doesn't intend to buy one. I would love to be proven wrong.

They both result in reduction of days the car can be sold.

The safety recalls listed for the gen4 involved a stop sale. Depending on specifics, they may have involved a production halt.

The gen5 was revealed Nov 2022. Toyota USA said arrival at dealers around Jan 2023. Priuschatters posted quotes in Feb 2023, and some bought without a blatant mark up in April. The Prime probably came later, but wasn't full model year later.

I was prompted to comment over you thinking the delay I linked resulted in the gen4 Prime's looks, while it took place long after the design was set. Toyota started production, but problems arose in getting the CF hatch production up to speed, so they had to stop assembling the car. Your post sounded like spinning a production fault as something good.

I bought my G5 in June 2023, it it was the BEST time to buy a new Prius for ME. I received a trade-in value equal to my purchase price on the G4 and bought my G5 for MSRP. I owe less than $15k on my G5 and I didn't put down a penny.

I take that back. I put a few hundred down as a deposit to hold the car when it was enroute. They applied that to the purchase price.

Now why don't you do us ALL a favor and leave this forum. You're just torturing yourself (and us).

And where I live markups are illegal. So I paid MSRP plus tax and dealer fees (all of which is transparently available on toyota.ca as part of the build&price options.

And I continue to believe that the G5 Prius is worth MORE than what they sold it to me for - which is evidenced by the fact that people have paid $10k over list price for them.

I've lost count of how many awards it's won. And oh yeah, it's officially the GREENEST car you can buy in 2024 as well. I mean... it's. the. winner lol.

Now what does that make someone who keeps bashing it? Just sayin'......

Thank you PLEASE!!! This particular TROLL (Gohkan) is ruining the Gen 5 forums. His extremely biased history here speaks for itself. Utterly ridiculous to let this continue and I will be leaving because of it (like many other Gen 5 owners before me)

I doubt I'd even consider buying a Prius these days if the Camry Hybrid had a liftback option. Exact same "sedan" exterior shape but with the hinge at the top of the glass. There are and have been so many cars that pull it off perfectly - e.g. A5/A7, Stinger, Regal Sportback (to say nothing of the Model S, EQS, and ID.7). Something in the back of my head still won't shut up about wanting an A7 TDI.

Yeah, the previous-generation Camry Hybrid LE was the top-rated vehicle among all vehicles in the Consumer Reports ratings, surpassing all German luxury vehicles, Teslas, Lucids, etc. I expect the new-generation 2025 Camry Hybrid to be also the top-rated vehicle among all vehicles.
