    Size matters.
Very sophisticated device. Ground loop noise protection as well as SONY LDAC codec and Cirrus Logic audiophile grade 127dB SNR DAC technology.

I have used a Headamp Pico DAC. It takes the digital signal from my iPhones lightning port into the DAC mini USB. The DAC is also a mini headphone amp and acts like a preamplifier. It does need to turned up quite high to replicate a line out level. It sounds at least as good ( maybe better) as the CD player, even though the music files are 256 AAC.

Now I use an IPod classic with a LOD (line out dock). It’s just simpler and sounds almost as good.

It sounds quite bad coming from a headphone jack in my experience. You just can’t get the volume high enough.

Well, you can order what I suggested from Amazon risk free and see if it works better. Not sure what you’re looking for.

Well I was gonna use the sound source on a gen 2 with factory jbl system and I have an added Rockford fosgate subs just to flavor the sound a bit. Anyways so that's a mini headphone jack with the I pod plugged it. It sounds good to very good. Whats I'm trying to do is make the sound warmer. The system on my Austin Healey is pretty much similar setup with a quad amp and a sub woofer but its an old alpine cassette deck as the source. The sound on the Austin is light years away from the prius. Its all hi fidelity analog. I'm not asking for a miracle change.. what do you expect the music source today is all digital and plastic. Theres no way I could match the system of the 80's. If I could get a good dac, atleast I will have a pleasurable system to listen and after all I drive the prius from Monday to Friday for work.

maybe just get the firefly DAC device I’ve quoted above from Amazon and give it a try. Free shipping and free return shipping if you don’t like the results. Takes two minutes to install and test it. Have thirty days to test it before returning it.
