A friend of mine says that it's an act: Bush wants to sound stupid, to appeal to the anti-intellectual vote. I disagree with my friend. I think Bush really is an utter moron. But my friend does make a plausible argument.

Daniel...pleeeese don't take this the wrong way, but if a stranger came up to me and told me what your friend told you...I'd think that HE'S the utter moron. I already know that Bush is a moron. ;)

I was driving home tonight and I had NPR on the radio. Karl Rove was being interviewed (why anyone is even talking to this guy- who word is will be indicted in the next few days- is beyond belief), and he was asked about Bush's low approval ratings. Karl Rove's reply was, "the people like President Bush. His approval ratings are in the 60's." I nearly ran off the road!
Perhaps I was wrong- Karl Rove shouldn't be sent to prison, but rather to a treatment center because he is clearly on crack! Does he really believe that Bush's approval rating is in the 60's (when all the reports in the media say that it has gone below 30%), or does he think that if he repeats nonsense like that, the faithful will believe him?

So tonight I turned on CSPAN to hear what kind of crazy plan for nuking Mexico or whatever that Bush is proposing, and after Kennedy's speech they show Karl Rove's speech at the American Enterprise Institute. Karl Rove was introduced as a man of "intellectual depth and strength of character." Am I in some kind of bizarro world??

First off, come on larkinmj, NPR.......CSPAN.....you know it's filled with liberal propaganda! :) You have to listen to Hannity and Colmes, the O'Reilly Factor, and Rush Limbaugh to get the straight scoop.

No bizarro world. He's just insane. That's all. What poll is he referring to???? The informal office poll in the White House? You know, the one on WhiteHouseChat.com? Similiar to the poll I posted on this forum. The poll went something like this:

    <div align="center">Is President Bush a great President?

    Or the greatest President?

(courtesy of the Colbert Report, seen every M-Th on Comedy Central at 1100 EST. Check local listings)

Yep, I think it was Abraham Lincoln that had the lowest approval rating of any US president, half the country left then half of the rest didn't like him, 25%....now he's rated by scholars and the best ever. Worst approval after him I'd guess Carter, Nixon, Truman then Bush ?

I came back from walking the dogs- I had left CSPAN on, and Rove was still talking at the AEI forum (and my dogs take a long walk.) Damn if Rove didn't say the same thing in response to a reporter's question- "The people like President Bush. Our polls show his approval rating in the 60's."
ARGHHHHHH!!!!!!!

History will settle this topic 100 years from now, the same way it will judge Clinton.

The problem with making a decision is making the decision. Clinton took the easy way out - probably much to our misfortune, by never making a decision (except to get that hummer in the Oval Office). It is easy to govern by polls and not stir the pot.

There is no doubt in my mind that FDR or Truman, or Kennedy would have acted differently given the same set of circumstances Clinton faced -- WTC I (1993, 6 Americans murdered and 1,000+ injured), the embassy bombings, Somalia, or the USS Cole attack.

I still wonder why Clinton did absolutely NOTHING as Americans died on his watch?? I wonder why he let the nuclear jeanny out of the bag THREE times? I wonder why he limited American involvement in Kosavo to 15,000 feet, I wonder why he let Darfur brew, I wonder why he let Afghanistan turn into a terror camp, I wonder why backed Palestinian terror and hindered Israeli attempts at self-defense, I wonder why he did not take OBL when he had the chance 4+ times, I wonder why he constructed the wall between CIA and law enforcement, I wonder why he decimated US intellegence capacity, etc, etc, etc.

We shall see how history judges all - long after we are gone.

How can you be so certain? Take a competent actor, give him the role of moron, and he can be reasonably convincing. I do think that Bush is a moron. But it's one of those things that we can never be absolutely certain of. It could be an act.

I think my friend is mistaken (when he asserts that Bush's idiocy is an act) but my friend is not stupid, and his argument is plausible.

There are things we can know, and other things we can only believe. It is easy to believe that your beliefs are certainties. We can be quite certain (based on his personal history) that Bush is a stupid man. But harder to be certain that he is a moron. He could be a stupid man who knows he's stupid, and plays the political advantage of being stupid by playing the utter moron in order to maximize his appeal to the anti-intellectual voters. This also gives him an excuse for his failures.

Boy, you'd almost think the second it was announced that Bush was re-elected ( :D ), a veil of oppression suddenly fell upon the libs....

I have to say though, whenever y'all feel Bush is somehow this evil overlord out to throw everyone who looks at him the wrong way in jail forever, you should get a taste of what life is like in Saudi Arabia, where Bush is considered an extreme LEFTIST!...:

Y'all have NO idea what REAL conservatism is...

Funny because you can substitute the word "hummer" for "big corporate payoff/lobbyist bribe" and now you're talking about Dubya.

And take out "Clinton" and put in "Bush", and now you're talking about the war in Iraq.

I always get a kick out of Republicans when they talk about Clinton and his blow job. What a crime! He lied about getting a hummer. What man wouldn't? It didn't even impact national security.

Clinton listened to all parties when making a decision. He made mistakes, no doubt about it. All presidents do. But he had the support of our allies and did not alienate them. We cannot be isolationists like we are under the Bush Regime. Oh, forgot....we had a 'Coalition of the Willing'. :)

When you lower expectations to ground level ANYTHING you do is better than expected. Therefore you are a genius. *(Page 1 of the Rove "Presidential Guide For Dummies") **How low can you stoop? It's LIMBO time!

I find it absolutely astounding that as of this writing, 20 Prius owners/drivers think that Bush is doing "an excellent or pretty good job", primarily because the Prius seems to be the best candidate for current, tree-hugging 'lefty-mobile'.

Most 'Dubya' bumper stickers I see are on big, expensive, full-size vehicles of some type (pickup trucks, SUVs and cars). I rarely see one on something small and/or even remotely fuel-efficient. Maybe someone can provide a picture of one on a Prius.

I would certainly lie about getting a hummer! Those things only get about 10 MPG! How embarrassing! B)
