here's a nice report on ev sales by mfg for 2022 and 2023 ytd, and q3 of 2023 broken out.
things look quite good for several manufacturers, and dismal for others.

    us-ev-sales-q3-2023

playing catchup won't be easy, for the laggards, and lobbying to slow down ev conversion is to their advantage financially.
but more importantly, what do the companies really see for the future of transportation energy?

there was a bruhaha among large toyota stockholders who said toyota was dragging their feet.
toyota simply came out with a statement that they were more committed to electrification than ever before, and the stockholders crawled back into their hole.

Actions speak louder than words. Talk is cheap. And for what it’s worth, do some serious fact checking and find out if the stock holders really did “crawl back in their hole”.

Yep! Good old fashioned GREED! Our choice to feed it or not. My wife’s and mine answer to rising food and fuel prices: garden is bigger and our weight is lower since we are walking more. Not so much greed as not supporting their greed.

I ran my own thread with a rambling study of the topic and came to the conclusion that it's too soon for us to make a meaningful impact by driving an electric car.

After a lot of research and math, I came to the conclusion that our family can make a much bigger "green" impact for a lot fewer dollars by modernizing the HVAC system in our home and then adding solar panels. We are already 5 figures deep into that project and initial results are excellent.

We will give the electric auto industry 5-10 years to un-f*** itself without any of our dollars involved and maybe by then it'll be worth trying.

For what it’s worth: 2022 Prius has a lower drag coefficient than the 2023. 2022 Prius has more trunk space than the 2023. 2022 Prius was more in line with the Prius design objectives than the 2023.

Toyotas “flagship” hybrid seems to be trying to accomplish something that the previous generations weren’t.

As for my wife and I, we don’t like what we see so, unless Toyota heads a different direction, we will spend our money elsewhere. If you’re happy with the way they are headed, spend your money there. If you don’t like our way of thinking then, don’t like our way of thinking. Either way we will be fine.

Just putting raw numbers to it, ~$65k in heat pumps & solar panels is going to let me stop buying about 900 gallons of home heating oil per year.

We only burn about 700 gallons of gasoline per year.

I'd have a hard time squeezing two capable EVs out of $65k, especially when you factor in insurance. And they wouldn't be the sizes and shapes we like driving, and they would likely wear out or need major maintenance much sooner than a home heat pump or a solar panel.

Toyoda had also stepped down as CEO because of it. When he became chairman of the board, those stockholders called for him to step down, and for more independent board members. A motion was also put forward for the company to disclose their lobbying spending. The majority voted against it, but not the ones that started making noise.

I would say it is a measure of your success in meeting customer preferences and having a desirable product. A confirmation you are on the right track.

Maybe because the low sales volume hybrid isn't a plug in.
