The one and only Prius Plug-in FAQ!

As in my house, the amount of electricity that the PiP uses is dwarfed by typical refrigerators, freezers, A/C, dehumidifiers, computers and lights consumed by the normal household. I'm not even going to consider electric heat or hot water that many households use.

Unfortunately no. I bought used since it was the only plug-in I could find within 300 miles of my home in Georgia. The dealership was able to find this one in the D.C. area, but no manuals were included and being a Southern state, dealerships are not being provided with ANY plug-in support from Toyota. Disappointing... I would have bought a new one in a second if one was available in the Atlanta area. Meanwhile Nissan is selling Leafs here like crazy.

Thank you VERY much for the offer, but I finally found one as part of a non-plug-in 2012 manual package on e-Bay so I bought it. After a few hours reading, it's obvious that the visual audio system manual is a good one to have in hand. The capability of even the base system is huge, compared with even the JBL system of the previous year! For those who might be interested, I've been meticulous to plug in at home; have so far (13-days) done two 160-mile highway runs, 135-miles to/from the dealership and a bunch of around-town under-10-mile trips. The fuel gauge still shows 3 bars of the tank filled by the dealership, and the car computer indicates 79-mpg.

 

Thanks, but unfortunately Toyota doesn't offer a PDF of the full manual, only a zillion separate sub-sections. I did find one on e-Bay so I'm bleary-eyed from reading it but fully up to speed now!

 

I assembled all the pages of the 2014 PHV Navigation Manual into a single PDF. It is listed in page one of this thread, but the link appears to be private. I posted it at the link in this message if you want it.

Hi everyone,
I have been seeing on this site that people talk about coolant temps and engine temps when they talk about why the ICE kicks on. How do you check what the temps are? I looked around on the site but haven't found anything. I have a base PIP. Thanks!

 

You need to use a product like scanguage or the Torque app for Android.

 

... which plug into the diagnostic port, which connects to the various computers in the car.

2014 PiP (base) - a 2010 Prius (recycler) spare fits partially in the rear storage well. The hatch goes down and it doesn't seem to block the expansive rear visibility of the PiP.

This pic shows the spare in a custom black plastic tire carrier (also useful for yard work).

 

Thanks. My car has the menu like this shows, but doesn't have the gas price sub menu. Is this PDF for the plug in or regular prius? I have a 2014 pip. Thanks for the help!

 

Gas price display just isn't available in the plug-in.
