No, I've pretty much given up ice cream, and most - not all! - things that aren't good for me.

The next poster's really sleepy today because they stayed up too late last night.

I thought I did, but the list keeps getting longer...

The next poster's going to let someone else play this game for a bit.

No, don't have a dog yet. But I did give Jasper kitty a smackeroony between the ears and took him for a spin on the dance floor (my living room) when I got home from work. He was a good boy today and didn't bother the Christmas tree.

The next poster had someone surprise them by decorating the outside of their house yesterday while they were at work.

    Nope.

The next poster will read the following, and say, 'Huh. That was a long Next Poster Post'

[FONT=Verdana, Helvetica, Arial]My brother and I were on the way home. Almost home. I pulled up to the stop sign, that is mere seconds from my house. It’s dark. And I noticed that there is a cop sitting across the street with his parking lights on. I said to him, ‘Huh. Wonder what’s up with that?’, and knowing it was a cop, I turned on my right blinker, which I would have done anyway, but I had time to think about it, along with speaking to my brother. This is important for the story.

I make the right turn, then make the left turn into my alley, behind our house, and lo, and behold, there is suddenly red and blue lights on behind me. ‘ I wonder if he needs to get down the alley, ‘ I said to my brother. So I pull into my driveway, and open the garage, when he comes in to my driveway. I say to my brother, ‘What did I do?’ He walks up to the window and asks for my license and proof of insurance (which is a big thing suddenly in the Dallas area; saw it on the news), and I ask him, ‘Sure, what for?’ and he tells me it’s because I rolled through the stop sign back there. I told him, ‘No I didn’t’ , and he tells me that I did, and that he has it on video. So with out a second hesitation, I ask him, ‘Can I see that video?’, because I know as sure as I am typing these letters, I did not roll through the stop. Remember, I had time to ask my brother what the cop was doing up the street, and to consciously turn on my blinker. Something that requires time, and time to stop...

Well, he says wait here, and walks back to his car. So it starts to rain, and I decide to finish pulling into the garage. Which upsets said cop, and he blats his horn at me; I get out to tell him, that all I am doing is pulling into my garage, and he tells me that I have to get back in the car and wait. He does in less then friendly words. I tell him, ‘Don’t treat me like a criminal’, and get into the car. I was ticked; a ticket for something I knew I had not done. I was going to fight this.

He came back, and asks me for my number. I give him my Florida cell phone; that is convenient to have at times. He asks me if there is a number where I work; I tell him I’m a retired person, who is a Preacher. This suddenly turns his attitude; he apologizes for being rude, but he says to me, that (he) did not know me, and I could have gone into the garage for a weapon. Which is ludicrous at best, I know. But it occurs to me: If I had the gumption to have a weapon, I would have one in my truck, and he never checked that. I could have blown him away easily, if that was my intention. Good thing I am a good guy.

I could tell by his attitude: He was just some power hungry cop, who must have thought I ran some stop sign. He said when he handed me my drivers license back, ‘..you can go on all night about not running that stop sign; I know what I saw. ‘ It’s what he ‘saw’ , not what was on tape; there had to be no tape, otherwise, I would have got a ticket. He only gave me a warning. Good thing too: I was going to say to him, if he insisted that I sign a ticket, that I was not going to sign unless he showed me on the tape where I rolled through that stop sign.

Because, I was right, I knew it. I may not be right about a lot of things, but that I knew. And it felt good, putting up some backbone there. I’ll own up to something if I did it, but this was not one of those times.

It also reminded me: We are now GUILTY until proven INNOCENT in this country. I mean, twenty years ago, if I had just pulled into the garage, this cop would have let it slide. I know it. Times have changed. Now we are all potential criminals, with evil intent at all times.

I know some of PRISUCHAT are cops, and I don’t think all cops are evil, but there are ones who seem that just want to punish people. I mean, let’s pretend, that he pulls me over, and says to me, ‘Sir, you ran that stop sign back there; just be more careful next time, okay?’ and let it be at that, I still would know I did not run the stop sign, but at least it would have taken five minutes, and there would not be the time wasted in the rain while he looked up my record and found out that I am a good citizen, and also the (somewhat) embarrassment of my neighbors having seen this cop in my driveway with his lights on.
Job 13:15 says something to the effect, that even if he killed me (which I know he would not), but let’s say he did, I would keep on hoping; I would in this case, defend my innocence to the very end.
But...having said all that with all the bluster of the wind against my house, if I had fought it, it would have been a lot of wasted time, and frankly, I’m glad he just gave me the warning and went on his way.

Because I don’t need the extra stress, right?

You're right... I don't need the extra stress. I am glad that I live in a fairly small town, and that the local constabulary is mostly local people, too.

Nope. I actually provided lunch for my co-workers. I brought in a chicken, which we baked in our toaster oven, flour tortillas, lettuce, cheese and salsa and we had chicken soft tacos. And some cookies I picked up at the mexican bakery.

No, but sorry if you hurt yours. Hope it feels better soon.

The next poster just read TJ's entire longest ever next poster post and is still awake. I got one of those "California Stop" tickets once too, and it is SO irritating. I mean it's just so arbitrary! HOW LONG must one remain motionless for it to be considered a "stop?"

Yep, read all of TJs post and still awake.

And as long as we're on the subject of traffic tickets let me tell you my tales of woe.

The first ticket I ever got I was on foot. In an effort to fill the coffers...I mean raise public awareness, the various Peninsula police departments and Caltrain (the local commuter train here) got together to stage a "track crossing sting" (about 17 people per year die from being hit by trains - including suicides). They were ticketing people for walking across the train tracks when the gates were down. Even if the *$*@! train had already gone past! Guess who fell right into that trap? AND! And....they were running extra, empty trains just bring the gates down more often! Fine amount: $375. Bastards.

The second ticket I got was a "California stop" while driving a friend's car to work (she was in LA at the time and had let me use her car. This was during that awkward period when my old Camry and I had stopped speaking to each other).

The third ticket I got was another "California stop" while I was driving a rental Prius before I got my own Prius. While I was pulled over and the cop was back at his cruiser looking up info, a woman came up to my window and whispered to me "I f---ing hate getting tickets too" and walked away. For some reason that made me feel a bit better that day.

Three tickets and not one of them in either of the cars I've owned. Knock on wood and all that...

All part of the big happy Toyota family...

The next poster donated two bags of books to the library today.
