I forgot I even had that feature on the TiVo. I turned it off. I agree, it is an annoyance.

And now the Prius makes an appearance in this thread!

Unfortunately, my much-vaunted combo unit described on Page 1 (the JVC DR-MX1S) lost interest in playing DVDs, so it was packed into the Prius for a short trip to the authorized JVC service center.

As we left (the repaired unit will be - gulp - shipped back to our house), we saw a BMW driver park and unpack yet another unit like the one we were trying to get to work!

So JVC is 0 for 4 with this nice idea so far. Did I just hear the price drop again?

Basically the feature that records programs Tivo thinks you MIGHT like based on your recording patterns.

You can switch that feature off; and "suggested" programs will NEVER cause programs that you've intentionally recorded to be deleted.

The only reason I leave suggestions on is that they serve as a "gas gauge", to let me know how much space I have left on my TiVo. (I upgraded to a double-size hard drive last summer -- wonderful for recording marathons of various shows.)

The one thing a VCR is still good for: distributing last night's killer episode of Buffy/Angel/Lost that your TiVo caught to those lazy-good-for-nothings in the office who have come to depend on you for the programs they're too busy to tape.

I've created a welfare class within my work area...

Real-Time VHS copying... eew! That's way to slow for me, and you suffer from a generational loss.

The high-speed copying my HDD/DVD recorder is much faster, and quality is retained.

By the way, blank 8X DVD+R are down to 40 cents now. Yippee!

Dual-Layer are about $1 each now. I consider that reasonable too.

If you've seen DL blanks for a buck each, please post the vendor.

Sorry, my bad. The same day I saw my first 16X blanks (which were $1 each) was when I saw a substantial drop in the DL price (no longer the ridiculous $10 each).

But now I don't for the life of me remember how much... since that was a 2 weeks ago and I didn't really care until last weekend, when I finally bought a burner that records DL.

By the way, now that DL burning is available at 4X, I think that is the last nail in the -RW/-R coffin.
