Last week I drove down to Minneapolis for a couple of days. I topped my Prius off in Winnipeg and had the cruise set at the posted speed limit all the way to Forest Lake where I filled up.

Naturally the gas pump in Forest Lake MN is set to U.S. gallons.

Converting km to miles, I got 51 MPG and didn't do anything special to maximize my fuel economy. Eg tires were set to factory recommended 35 F and 33 R.

Wow, 4.2 is great Rollerblade! <sigh> My got bumped to 4.4 and i'm almost at 500km with 3 bars left.

With regards to this thread, perhaps some are just annoyed that the Prius is getting all this attention about the extraordinary fuel mileage that they want to prove it otherwise. Besides, wasn't the EPA supposed to be a source where we could compare cars under equal conditions? Sure someone might get equal or better mileage on a diesel but in that same route they took, they can probably do the same in the Prius. It's just a basis of comparison.

As for diesels, our stations are not as common as diesel stations in Europe and hence filling requires planning and knowledge of stations that serve diesel.

I dont' think anyone wants to prove it otherwise in this thread, I just think some people (myself included) are trying to point out that the Prius is not the pefect car, and cuts a lot of inexcusable corners in some cases.

None of this surprises me from Autoweek. This seems to be their usual stuff unless it has a V8 and Hi-performance. As for the other hi mileage cars out there, I owned an 02 VW Jetta TDI/auto and averaged about 34 mpg w/ ave. performance and a lot of maint. and also an 04 Honda Civic hybrid w/auto and it averaged 40 mpg w/ poor performance and not much room. My 05 Prius is averaging 50.1 so far w/ 2800 miles recorded. I would consider handling above average and performance good. My wifes 05 VW conv. gets 21 in town and 29 highway.

:cussing: now that article was meant to do only one thing... to advertise the accord hybrid. notice how they complain about prius performance and mpg.... then they suddenly seem ok with a "more powerful" hybrid accord whos mileage just doesnt compare to the prius. :guns: PFFFfffft!

im starting not to care what other people think about the prius. i care about the fact producing less waste because im driving it and im making less trips to the gas station and saving $$ that way. any other problems that happen along the way with this car would happen with any other car as well.

lol they can complain all they want. I am the one laughing at the gas station. I just took a trip to San Antonio (8hrs ea way) and got 55 mpg going 75 mph there and 57 mpg going 70 mph coming back.

That is really good mileage at those speeds. Were you drafting behind larger vehicles? Downhill both ways?

I've gotten those figures at those speeds also (and I might add with occasional spurts to 95-100 mph). That is without drafting and about a 50 mile round trip commute.
