??? Telsas are maintenance free? Who knew? I guess I was wrong about the need for a maintenance infrastructure.
Maintenance work versus warranty work. By the luck of the draw sometimes you get a car that is an outlier, requiring more visits. Not very pleasant if you're over 100 miles from the closest SC. Our 3 closest service centers for Honda, VW & GM are ~2mi. Toyota & Kia/Hyundai, maybe 10 miles. Subaru/Chrysler/Dodge, 20 mi. All others, over 150 mi. Factors to consider in case you get a dud. Next tax yr we'll trade out one of two cars . Almost $50K Tesla stock sale profit a couple days ago -now safely resting in money market retirement acct. How far we have to schlep a car for maintenance & warranty work has to be a factor unfortunately. .
The car I drove to work today is a clapped-out 2006 GMC Envoy that's WELL PAST the one light second mark. The third week I owned it, the transmission started puking fluids all over the place, necessitating an emergency transmission replacement in the middle of butt-scratch, Alabama about 2 country-road hours north of Mobile. An obvious manufacturer warranty-covered defect. It broke down about 10 miles from the nearest GMC dealer. Perhaps 30 miles from the next nearest. I went through the 5 stages of grief thinking that I bought a lemon, but 2006 was the LAST time that this car ever failed in service and with one exception that I can think of (fuel level sensor that I was too lazy to replace) it's never seen the inside of any service department. My nearest GMC dealership has about the most horrible service department in the known history of service departments. WORSE and more dishonest than Toyota service departments, if you can believe it. I said in a Google review that their service department needs a visit to a service department!! There are probably 5-6 more GMC dealers inside of 50 miles - and I don't live in a large city. I don't know the numbers exactly because I try to avoid service departments like a Baptist preacher avoids Irish wakes. BUT they are there if I need 'em. THAT is one reason why I have 3 other GMCs.
there's nothing but tyre rotations, cabin filter and inspections on the bolt until 150,000 miles, when the fluids get changed. and no head gasket to worry about
A note from Barchart. "Tesla is already acting like a meme stock since last week's election, and Jefferies analyst Philippe Houchois suggests the trillion-dollar company should really embrace the meme-ness, writing in a note today that the EV giant could sell equity into the recent strength to further shore up its balance sheet." JeffD
.... Yawn ... almost comical, all these pundits of stocks. Similar to the ones who said how close the election would be. LOL then ... they come up with the ridiculous term like meme stock. Really? .
Regardless, I'm moving my stock capital to a solar roof. Once I sold my TSLA, I've lost most of my interest. Bob Wilson
As bad as that will be, wait until everybody realizes fiat dollars are funny money, all based on illusory faith .
Everything is ‘funny money’. Even direct barter values change depending upon when and who is doing the bartering. Dollars backed by gold is no less ‘funny money’ than dollars backed by a promise from a government.
Things that are REAL at least have some value. Someone will gladly trade their double eagle for a loaf of bread if someone has a starving family. .
Sure they will. Likewise, I’d sell a loaf of bread to my starving neighbor for a promise. Gold only has value because our society agrees it has value. Dollars only have value because our society agrees it has value. The paper a dollar is made of has more intrinsic value to me than a gold coin. At least I can write notes on it. If I were a jewelry maker, and the society I was a part of agreed gold jewelry is cool, perhaps the value of the gold would be worth more than the dollar. Gold, dollars, gems, all are ‘funny money’. They all have exactly the value our society gives them. And that value changes by person and circumstances.
Historically , what gives gold , other precious metals, jewels and etc intrinsic value is scarcity, and unknown finite quantity
