Right now, Tesla is competing with "Beta-ware" cars. I would love to see an owner commercial with:
    • 3 existing models on a line.
    • Hyundai cardboard box on Clarkson with a megaphone
    • Bolt cardboard box car on a May with a megaphone
    • STIG comes out and waves the starting flag
    One can dream.

this all sounds good on it's surface. but goldman sacks doesn't play the game like you and me. (okay, not me, i'm in cd's) but if you think they are looking at the health of a company, or it's future potential, or it's past performance, you'd be sadly mistaken.
they play an insider game that us peons are not privy to.

I have to disagree with you.
Goldman Sacks makes money loaning money.
When they invest directly, they are certainly using their improved knowledge (regardless of that coming from research or inside information). But it what that additional information indicates about the companies plans, ability to execute those plans and health of the company.

So in short, yes they have more information, but it is about the same things small investors are looking for.

they ride the wave. speaking generically, all the investment banks talk to each other, decide what they are going to invest in, push the price up and get out. leaving the small investors in their wake.

Ahh, at what point will we see a Tesla saturated market in the us, until they are less than 40,000$, and if that 40,000$ model has problems...
Ha, just looked at today's market action up 8$, the tesla bubble grows.

How does Tesla manage inventory of built cars?

The reason I ask is: AD #2025 – EPA Decides to Keep Standards, First EV Finishes Dakar Rally, Most Loved and Hated Car Models – Autoline Daily
Sourced: Tesla updates Referral Program, adds Annual Awards - Autoblog

One of Tesla's strengths as an automaker is its ability to turn customers into brand advocates. Proud drivers of the luxury EVs have been known to give rides to curious strangers, undertake milestone road trips, produce endless hours of YouTube videos, and take to the drag strip to showcase what their cars can do. To reward their loyal customer base and encourage them to bring others aboard, Tesla has its own Referral Program, dating back to the days of the Roadster. It's an effective tool, and one that has put the company in the running for the Extole ACE Award. Now, the electric automaker has launched the latest iteration of the program with a fresh set of rewards, as well as a new Annual Awards scheme.

In the new period of the Reward Program, lasting from January 16 to March 15, 2017, owners who refer seven or more new buyers are invited (with a +1) to Tesla's delivery event for the Model 3. Lesser prizes include a red, limited edition Founders Series Powerwall 2 (five referrals), a Founder Series Model S for Kids (three referrals), and and Tesla carry-on roller bag (two referrals). Also, each referral earns the owner an entry into a drawing to win their choice of a Ludicrous P100D Model S or Model X.

The new Annual Awards program provides even more opportunity to earn some desirable gifts from Tesla. 15 referrals will earn an owner a benefits package lasting until the end of 2018, which includes VIP Concierge service, VIP access to Tesla events, 10 passes for four people to tour Tesla's Fremont Factory, and 10 overnight test drive passes to give to family and friends (that last one should help Tesla woo even more potential customers).

Tesla builds to order, they don't have much inventory of new cars.
Used cars in their CPO program are stored regionally. For example, Chicago has some CPO stock.
For sales that are made, and then fall through, those likely get used as loaners or test drive cars. Either that, or they go into the CPO program.

I don't think so but there isn't enough detail in the published financials to make definitive statements. We can only see the inventory Tesla wants to show so it is very hard to count cars.

Inventory is very low. Difference between production and delivry is often transportation time. That's why end of quarter is mainly earmarked for the US where it gets delivered faster. There are signs that model S is about to be sales, not manufacturing constrained, but that was not the case in december 2016, much to the chagrin to people that have shorted the stock. Still model X has had production problems that appear to have been solved now, so big question for 2017 deliveries is whether the model 3 is released and if it ships this year. If it is not then likely there will be missed numbers either on delivers or margins (sales might increase with price drops). A giant manufacturing and engineering challenge to get the model 3 out this year in quantity.

We spoke with (what Bob calls) a sales critter yesterday & he incidentally mentioned X's are taking a couple months, from order to delivery. That's after dropping a couple features .... perforated leather/cooled seats - gray upholstery .... & ludicrous option on the P90D's + rumor has it, the 90 is going away all together - leaving just the 75's & 100's for the X.

    yep

The Knuckleheads at Bloomberg write up a drop in stock prices - it's horrible!..... around $212.00 !!
    Yet today over $251.
I sure wish I could be a bunch of morons trying to stir up drama, & still be in business.
