Burn rate will be low (or possibly negative) for the rest of the year. Next year burn will likely go up as they Spend on development of the Y, Truck, and Roadster and probably new factory(ies). I expect a 2019 capital raise, but structure and size is unknown.

 

You spend, & buyers buy into what you spend capital on;


Each dot represents between 6 to 40 supercharger stalls - each costing 4 figures, not to mention the accompanying Transformers that will run 6 figures, not to mention ongoing maintenance & parts replacement costs, not to mention new / expansion costs still ongoing.
That all brings in more capirol. CARB credits bring in heafty amounts too.

I am not for or against fuel cell vehicles but without the infrastructure in place to bring costs down and then there is always politics. Where would the electric car go without infrastructure? Take away all the charging stations and eliminate at home charging (hypothetical) and where would the Tesla be? The Canadian bus project just wasn't very well thought out by the looks of it.

Kind of like building boats where there is no water.

 

wait a minute, I was just pointing out that even with a known route like buses have, it still doesn't work, because the vehicles & their maintenance itself is too expensive. That's what I meant when I said it's already been tried, & failed. But like their Lobby has been saying for almost six decades now, "in just 10 more years".

Indeed, that’s one of the advantages BEVs have over HFCEVs: Most of the infrastructure needed for the daily commute at least is mostly there already. Plus, with >200 mile EVs becoming more common, even travel to the next city (to next *state* in some parts of the country!) don’t require exotic high-speed DC chargers.

Now, granted, that’s easy for me to say, with my garage with a 240V outlet and all, but apartment infrastructure is coming along too. Hydrogen has neither mass generation nor mass distribution.

Efficiency is the other big BEV advantage: HFCEVs are only on the order of 50% efficient.

 

Pre Trump, I'd seen amounts of at least $1,000 per land barge, to offset CAFE standards. But another capitol note came out today;

From what I read, Tesla is going to build Teslas in China. I didn't see anything about specific models.

 

Plans are to do batteries, model 3 and then probably upcoming model Y in China for Chinese and maybe some other markets. Tesla had planned on exporting the higher priced model X and S from the US since this line already exists and volume would probably stay low, but ... if the new tarrifs stay, I could see tesla changing that.

I've seen shorters claim this but tesla has been saying the opposite. These are heavy vehicles and if the trade war continues there would be larger tariffs importing the cars in the the US. Even at today's 2.5% it makes no sense to pay the tarrif man $1000 on an importing a $40K car from china when plant expansion in the US will get government subsidies from the state it will be located in. It sounds like tesla if they can come up with the cash would build an assembly (probably not battery) plant in europe, and free up capacity in the Freemont plant. That would save the tarrifs there also.

 

I read it on IEV's who's quoting Bloomberg:

"***UPDATE – Bloomberg is reporting that Tesla is close to signing a deal that will create what’s being referred to as Gigafactory 3 in China. It’ll be able to produce some 500,000 vehicles per year and will likely be a primary site for production of the upcoming Tesla Model Y and a secondary location for Model 3 production."

That article said nothing about tesla building model Y's in china and then exporting them into the US. It said they planned on exactly what I said.

This is about building the 3, and possibly the Y in China for asian (and possibly australian and russian) distribution.

 

OK, so I'm confused and not sure where other model Y's would be built since Fremont is at or near capacity.
