Very true , EV really does make me realize that terrain, temperature, speed influences the power consumption of the car more than I tough. In contrast with when I was operating a gas only vehicule.
The learning curve is easy with a PHEV but driving in EV mode is so rewarding......

Your thinking about the old Nissan Leafs; Tortoise mode - when the battery gets to a certain level your limited to 10-15 mph. Don't know if they still make them or if the newer ones still do that.

The original RAV4 EV built in the 1990s through 2000s did that as well

I've never known anyone who've owned a RAV4 EV; but I've had several friend experience Tortoise mode in their Leafs. One positive one negative. One was within a quarter mile from a plug the other on an expressway. The expressway guy was not the sharpest tool in the shed.. if you get my drift - It was his own fault - but Nissan was to blame...:(:notworthy:

I gently mentioned that if he was driving a gasser and it ran out of gas - would he still hold the manufacturer at fault?? He didn't get the corollary and just stared at me funny...........

As well as the gen1 Prius when there wasn't enough charge to provide full power. Even had a turtle warning light on the dash.

Most of the times the turtle lit up on my Gen 1, it wasn't so much about the battery being low on charge, as the battery being hot, and the car limiting the current from it.

I'll bet the driving range complaints included golf balls hitting an adjacent structure.
