Tema 4x4 lift kit

    Thank you! We’re enjoying the journey! It’s something we’ve been tinkering with for years on our personal vehicles but with more like minded individuals realizing what the unsuspecting Prius is really capable of with a few modifications it’s nice to start branching out.
    As for going with the General ATs, their light weight was our main reason for going with them. Plus the fact that they look more aggressive than most ATs in this size range. We’ve only put a few hundred miles of testing on them so far but they really do feel great. The car absorbs potholes and rough roads so much better now. Like a true CUV. I will say that the aggressive tread pattern is one of the less aerodynamic of the bunch with more rolling resistance which equates to poorer fuel economy than a tighter tread pattern and harder compound AT. Everything comes at a cost. That being said, if I were in the snow or dirt the Grabber AT is at the top of my list.

    If you’re in the market for a lift we just finalized production on our 33mm front and rear steel strut spacer lift for the Gen 3 Prius. We ran polyurethane spacers on several vehicles in the past and after having two sets fail on us we decided to build something that would actually last. Our front spacers also account for the increased ride height and correct the camber and caster back to factory spec which greatly helps with alignment and handling characteristics. These will be offered at $249 shipped anywhere in the US and will be available on our website in the next month or so.     Didn’t want to mention any names but yes. After multiple failed sets I feel that any poly spacers has the potential and even likelihood of failure through vibrations, drying out, heating up, etc. I’m sure the time could be spent to improve their chemical compounds to hold up, but why try to when a far superior alternative already exist with metal spacers. With poly spacers I’m also really not a fan of removing and replacing the factory studs with longer ones. Not only is there no way around the process being completely barbaric, the replacement hardware provided it simply no where near a high enough rating for holding the entire front end on the vehicle. Factor in the lack of camera and caster correction and it’s three strikes you’re out.

    I will keep this favorite'd. The tire set I have on mine is good for awhile longer. May do something later on this summer. I am not gonna lie I have no idea how to add these types of kits onto cars.

    You can always run the lift with your current tires. I did this for 15k miles till mine were closer to needing to be replaced, then I just got impatient. Having the extra ground clearance with just the lift is beneficial all around and has next to no impact on fuel economy.
    Install can be done with basic hand tools in your driveway in a few hours. I’m planning on making an instructional video at some point in time to help provide more confidence to diy Installers.

    Finally got around to staring the process, got the rear spacers in, one bolt was missing, going to have to get more replacements tomorrow, these bolts are pot-metal... anything on fastenal's rack would be better than these. Think I'll just replace all the bolts.
    Hopefully will be able to get the fronts on in the next day or so
    ... I am definitely satisfied with the lift sofar...regardless of the junk bolts.
    Rising tuning/Tema, coupled with new monroe rear struts, at the stronger stock spec instead of the weaker and tired touring springs... I'm astonished at how much of a lift I got. I know they'll settle a bit but wow
    ... almost 10 inches in the rear

    I will add that i had to do both sides at the same time to get enough extension... and I had to undo one of the hold downs for the rear wheel sensor wires of both sides, to allow for more travel, to even get the new struts and lift in place... and the brake line was taught at full extension, definitely don't want to leave it hanging like that long.

    I was horrified that they would include the bolts they do. I wouldn’t even consider them grade 5. We run only grade 10.9 hardware in our kits, same as factory, including length. Having a strut separate while driving would be catastrophic. Good call replacing them. Looking forward to seeing the finished product!

    Hey PriusOffroad, long-time follower of this community, not super into the internet or social media so created this account specifically to ask you this question. I have a 2nd Gen Prius, my current rally vehicle nicknamed "Take No Prius-Oners". I've got a flood light bar and air-horn that I wired to a separate 12v battery in the back where the spare tire previously was, as well as several other internal modifications to make it a silly offroad overland vehicle including coolers, sleeping bed, storage compartments, etc. I purchased the Tema 4x4 40mm lift kit in past, and have also been disappointed by the quality (as I have read is a common complaint here). I have seen you post when I was doing research on originally lifting my Prius, about custom fabrication of strut spacers for a lift more durable than Tema. Is this something you would be willing to help me out with with? I am happy to pay for good work, just tired off spacers cracking while off-road. Thanks man and all the best, - Hugh

    Absolutely. As I said, love the community and have definitely got some real inspiration from everyone. Here are a couple quick photos of "Take No Prius-oners," - unfortunately back to stock height and tires until I can find more durable strut spacers, but she is still a wonderfully fun ride. Jeeps, Tacoma's, Rover's - They're all wonderful platforms, but I don't think you ever see more smiles than when you are driving a silly overland Prius!

    Thanks for the kind words! We feel your pain. We are about a month out on our next batch of spacers. Our stud manufacturer got backed up with the pandemic and should have them delivered this week then we can start production of our next batch then off to powder coating. I would say within a month or so they will be done.     Removing inner liners doesnt that give any trouble to, did u remove front and rear? I have stock tires 195/55R16 and looking to lift the car for a start with 40 mm spacers from Rising Tuning and then maybe...big maybe.... install bigger tires like 27 inch. Guys from PriusOffroad tell me that after installling lift kit 40 mm a 27” tire would add a little over an inch of ground clearance for a total just shy of 3” with lift and tires..¨? But difference in lift alone going from 195/55/R16 to 215/70/R16 like u did is 3,5 inch, (27.9 inch - 24.4 inch ), correct (..goal achieved in my case without spacers..) ? Why lift anymore and is that still safe? How much ground clearance do u have right now?

    You need to divide the difference in diameter by 2, to get difference in radius since only half of the difference in diameter will lead to raising the car. The other half will be above the center of the wheel.
    Also, you need the lift to get more space in the wheel well for the bigger tire.
