Confused. Is it MSRP or MSRP + $499?

Make sure you get an out the door quote. it should look something like this:

2008 Touring #6 with CZ (floor matts)

    Selling Price: $28,654
    Doc Fee: $55
    Tax: $2368.49
    DMV: $279
    Tire Disposal Fee: $8.75

    Total: $31,365.24

This is in California. Just don't let them add a large doc fee, dealer prep, or anything else that isn't absolutely required by your state.

msrp + 499 (must cc the $499 at time of order).
the 499 is refundable i was told. just as a note ..... i asked (perhaps facitously) under what circumstances the refundable 499 would not be refundable.... after a moment to figure out my question i was reassured by the salesperson it would be refundable.
probably it would be refunded when the car arrived and was about to be delivered to me and the bomb dropped with it when i would be told that some situation occured such that i would be paying X'thousand of $ over msrp..... well sorry mr.paul, here is your 499 (and the dealer opens the door to the next victim).
    what hath been created here....
anyway scenerios abound and i am going to try and be patient and hope my deal turns out.
    regards
    paul

I guess I am old school. If I have to give them money up front, I don't need a Prius. If I can get put on the list then fine, but I am not paying to be on a list. I know I am going to hear the rubble over this but that is just the way I feel about it. I guess the days of your word and a handshake are over

Nothing odd about putting deposit down.
By law money must be put in "escrow",refund must be made, period.
In previous post tire disposal fee-what is that all about?
If I buy new tires I have to pay disposal fee,but on a new car???

The tire fee is one of several auto related "fees" approved by the Florida Legislature. As stated in the text on the tire fee, "the dealer has the option of passing this fee on to the purchaser as a cost item". Well, you guessed it, WE pay for it.

More on these fees here on the FLA Department of Revenue website:

Wow-disposal fee on brand new tires!
Guess you have to make up for no State Income Tax.

Just got a call from my dealer...Earl Stewart Toyota. I'm only on the list about 3 WEEKS and a package #2 is on the way. Original wait time quoted was 4 months!!! NO DEALER fees and MSRP only. No Toyoguard or overpriced mats and no $500.00 price increase. Yes it's a 2008 model. Any dealer that tells you the cars come with these installed are B.S. These items are installed at the port (Not in Japan) if requested by the dealer. The Toyoguard costs the dealer about $200.00
I guess the recent drop in fuel prices is causing folks to re-think their orders. "Go Figure???"
And no....I don't work for Earl Stewart or anybody else for that matter. I'm just a guy that likes to get the most for his buck and deal with as honest a dealer as possible.
    Regards...

I would imagine that it would not be refundable should you buy the car, so it sounds like the price is $499 above MSRP.

You shouldn't have anything to worry about provided that you have a written order form signed by the dealer that specifies the total out the door price with everything broken down.

If you don't have that, then you don't have a deal.
