In the 19 posts above, nobody mentioned the start-and-stop cycles that are so prevalent in the Prius ICE.

Isn't it the old Castrol commercials where they drain all the oil out of two running cars, and the synthetic oil engine keeps on running while the other smokes to a stop?

If this were true, wouldn't synthetic oil work better to keep the Prius ICE lubricated through all the start-and-stops in city driving?

because the car is usually moving there is a mechanism
that circulates the oil. so the cylinders dont start "dry"
also because the ICE is usually started while the vehicle
is in motion, there are no misfires or cranks that you
would get with a normal car. the major wear on a car
happens when the car is cranked over before starting.
gas is still pumped into the cylinders and this gas is what
thins the oil coating thus creating the extra wear.
