After many years as a professional photographer having successfully sued those infringing my work, I've spent many expensive hours with lawyers explaining copyright law to me. I'd say the above is, in its essence, pretty much on the mark.

Photographs, images, essays...any work of the intellect (intellectual property) is copyrighted AT THE INSTANT OF ITS CREATION, is the exclusive property of the creator and is not transferable unless expressly stated by that creator.

So a little blanket blurb about how anything showing up is owned by the Forum owner is bogus. And, I'd like to add, a pretty piratical attitude arrogating the seizure of the work and contribution of others.

As forum owner, you should be grateful for our contribution, rather than try to convert our altruistic work to your profit.

    So sue me ;)

I believe "tiztim" is totally correct, and you, as the creator of the "work" are not required
to file anything or even mark your work in any special way, and you still enjoy the copyright protection.

Yes, I have even had a "reporter" steal my work.
On the other hand, my time left in this life was too precious to "waste" of going after him.

The appearance of the deflector does not appeal to me, especially the edge closest to the windshield - it looks flimsy.

On the face of things, it seems to me that there was no depriving of copyright, nor was this a simple posting of a disclaimer.

Instead, I see it as a mutual agreement between the registered user of PriusChat and PriusChat, whereby the registered user grants to PriusChat the non-exclusive right to use photos and other postings the registered user may post on PriusChat.

Is there law, statutory or otherwise, that says that the registered user cannot agree to this or that renders void the registered user's agreement to this?

    Just curious.

I put deflectors on my Honda CRV and my Dodge Grand Caravan (which I unloaded for my Prius). I think they worked quite well at deflecting sand, gravel, etc. I've not needed to replace a windshield on a car with a deflector and they kept the nose from being eaten up. On the Prius, it seems that the aerodynamics are such an integral part of the car that I went with a clear bra instead. The clear bra may not keep sand and gravel off the windshield, but it should do a much better job of protecting the front end while not messing with CE. And I like the look (or rather the non-look) of the clear bra better on the Prius.

I find that the deflector blends right in since it is angled unlike many others. As for marking the finish; I have never had a car delivered with more paint defects that my P - I was standing in northern ID with no way home (had a one way free airline ticket) or I would have refused it.

Ironically on my Toyota 2x4 truck I had over ten years ago, the paint was perfect when I removed the deflector six years later upon private sale. As for the logo in the corner on the deflector; about invisible in person (though it stands out in the P store pic).

So I am training myself not to look at the paint at all. Besides since most P owners will not put on body side molding - the dings and dents on the side doors would detract from the hood... After going through two windshields a clear bra was not appealing to me - especially when it cost over 3 times as much installed (mine was $80). More seriously, with my BSM, I may loose one MPG but I can live with that.
