Untrue. I can't tell about Gen II but with the 2010, simply pull out the sides of the plastic cover (on the end toward the wiper itself). It will unclip and you’ll be able to remove it. The wiper will then freely pivot 90° away from the glass and stays there.

 

Auto-dimming Rear View Mirror with Integrated Backup Camera is on some of the Canadian packages, and probably Europe. Definitely not an option in U.S., unless someone figures out how to install it aftermarket.

Why should you have to pull off a plastic cover while you're juggling a squeegie and a paper towel at the gas station? You don't have to pull off a cover on the front blades. Sorry - it is stupid.

 

Front blades slope backward. The rear blade slopes forward. Auto manufactures use locking clips on rear blades to keep them from lifting in car washes.

Mine turn off after 30 seconds. No auto lights. I don't think they are available in the US.

 

This sure is confusing because some say it works whether you have auto or not, others say they experience the same as me.

Just to repeat how I did the test:

1) Turned headlights on
2) Turned car off
3) Got out of car
4) Closed and locked doors
5) Put FOB inside house away from car
6) Waited three minutes

Headlights still on.

Someone here said "Auto" headlights is standard on the IV. I just bought the IV and it does not say "Auto" on the headlight switch.

What's going on?

 

My Test
1 Got in car
2 Started car with foot on brake(ready light on)
3 Removed foot from brake and Turned on headlights
4 Put foot on brake and pushed power button to off.
5 Opened door exited car
6 Closed door
7 Walked away from car, no warning beeps from car.
8 Went into house and watched lights.
9 30 to 40 second later lights turned off.
10 My auto headlights off system works just fine.

 

I stand corrected. I just ran outside and did the test again. What I realized what that in my first test, I had not started the car (even though I claimed I did...sorry).

If the engine is running and you shut it off, get out of the car and walk away, the headlight will turn off after thirty seconds. In every one of my tests, I did not have the engine running!

Who would have thought that the headlights will only shut off if the engine was running?

Anyway, I'm glad I discovered this because I thought there was something wrong with my car.

Maybe someone would want the headlight to stay on to get some light in the middle of nowhere. It it be annoying if, after seing the headlight auto off, turning them back on only to see them shut off again...

Sure, you could leave the car on on EV mode and have the headlights without worrying about draining the 12V battery but the headlight system is probable generic to Toyota and not Prius specific.

 

I haven't studied the bluetooth music and phone extensively yet, but are you saying if you are streaming music with your phone, you can't use it to receive and make calls?

 

You can stream music and receive calls at the same time but you have to pair the phone twice. Once as a phone and once as an audio device. The music will pause during the phone call and start again when it's done. This works with the iPhone and NAV package.

 

Easy fix for this. There is a dimmer switch on the lower left hand panel of the dashboard. If you scroll that all the 'up' until it clicks, you will brighten the dash to the same level as though your headlights were not on.

I think that some of the confusion here is between "Auto Off' and "Auto". The difference is that 'Auto' headlights will see how much light that there is available, and if needed, automatically turn on the headlights. Auto off headlights, as equipped in the US models, will only shut off the headlights after a given amount of time has lapsed, and you have turned off the car, and closed the door. Big difference.

 

Thanks for this. I got my car Monday and it has been rainy and overcast the rest of the week and when running the lights during the day I was a little disappointed about the dim display. I didn't think about pushing it up a little harder

 

Serious? No backup camera without the nav. option? Well, that's a deal breaker for me. I have an '06 Prius with the backup camera, and I have come to the conclusion I will never buy a car or truck without one again. A HUGE safety feature, and a GREAT convenience feature. I refuse to pay the ridiculous price for a nav. package that my $300 Garmin GPS does perfectly well. Besides the fact that I can throw it in my suitcase, jump on a jet, and put it into my rental car. Nope...until Prius undocks those two features, I will be just fine with my '06.

 

I doubt $19.99 is for synthetic (or at least after the first one - another member said his dealer screwed up on first and ate it). I asked my local dealer's service manager (bought out of state) and he said its a $40 upcharge so about $70 unless there is a coupon for regular OC. He said don't need it but my choice. So far, I miss the map pockets on side doors like my CRV and the displays for temp and radio fog quite a bit which is getting old. Even when don't the color plastic is strange and once it gets a mark on it, scratches. Also, closing the hatch is tricky (without manhandling spoiler or metal) so I keep a small microfiber cloth back there and use it. The CRV has the best design of any car I have when it comes to this area.

 

That is really weird about the headlights staying on. I have driven a corolla, tercel, and a Camry and they all have shut the lights off automatically as soon as I open the driver side door.

 

The dealer can change it to 0 seconds after all doors are closed if that's what you want.

 

Oh, I'm fine with the way they work. it just seems odd that Toyota's bottom line car shuts the lights off, but a high end model such as the prius doesn't.

 

My headlights shut off, so I think the issue is something else.

 

This is actually a feature that I've had on many high end cars (BMW, Mercedes, etc.) that's called follow me home lighting. The purpose is to illuminate the path to your destination when you exit the car, then turn the lights off.
