Stupid Question...What is the Prius' body made out of?

    Starting in 2004 (Gen 2), the hood and the hatch have been aluminum (2004 New Car Features Manual, page BO-3, saying that saved 36% in hood weight and 43% in hatch weight). I believe both parts are still aluminum in Gen 3 (and probably Gen 4, but I haven't looked closely at the Gen 4 NCFM).

    I'm resurrecting this thread to add info. :D

    I was poking around our 2012 Prius v (wagon) with a magnet and only the hood is aluminum.

    On our 2010 liftback the hood and hatch are aluminum.
